Not a coffee or tea drinker so I'll probably never frequent the places. Certainly not living in the UK :D

I do recall walking into some outpost of Tim Hortons just near Leicester Square. Obviously I left quickly and went for a pint.

A rather old thread but for the UK residents who think they are missing out on a Timmies you can look at the following, I cant find a more updated version

I don't know if it's true or not but I heard that, in Calgary, the Tim Horton's on Bow Trail (near Westbrook Mall) was closed down by the cops because the lineups were causing massive problems with the traffic on Bow Trail.

The premises are now a Mr Lube, so one could argue that commuters now have tastier brown sludge available.

Its busiest branch is located in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories; prior to its November 2010 expansion into Nunavut,[18] it was also its northernmost store

I go to starbucks to buy coffee (it's the closest coffee shop that's not timmies) or we use that fancy Doi Chaang coffee at home, well, that or something else that's poncy and organic from SE asia.

Van Houtte, either French Roast or Colombian.

Judging from my nail-storage tins in the garage, we've previously tried Folgers and Maxwell House.

We also have a jar of instant for knuckle-dragging visitors. It's been there for a while and may have gone off but who'd know?

You're quite right! After all, the Brits have the most delicious and healthy diet in the world, don't they. Seriously, I think that all the noobs from the UK are really wishing they moved to Basingstoke or somewhere like that , the way they bemoan the lack of Costa Coffee, Next, Debenhams, etc.

Earl Grey Tea.

All day, every day. Gallons of it.

Though, as a treat for my tea-drinking Canadian colleague, last time coming through Heathrow I bought a tin of Fortnum & Mason Christmas Tea, and it is amazing... incredibly good tea.

stored whole, ground as required, then brewed in an old-fashioned steam driven espresso machine.

For more than a couple of cups at once, or if I just fancy something a little lighter than an espresso, I have a drip filter machine, which usually brews President's Choice full roast beans.

Tim Hortons is OK for a road trip, but I don't think I'd bother if there was a realistic alternative within easy reach. I really, really don't understand people who line up in their trucks for a double double within a couple of miles of leaving home. I mean, in the amount of time it takes you to line up you could have brewed several cups at home before leaving - and it would both taste better and save money.

I suspect your analysis is spot on.

I think that analysis is way off personally and pretty stupid. My parents loved Tim Hortons when they visited, and some of my American friends have commented how much they love Tim Hortons when I talk about Canada.

That being said, I've never had just a regular coffee there, I always get French Vanilla, and the main part I like are the Bagels and the Muffins http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...iley_drool.gif Mmmm...Everything Bagel with Cream Cheese....

If Tim Horton's is a representation of the wider Canadian culture then that goes someway to explain the passion expats have with their embracing of the dull throbbing mediocrity that's so pervasive here.

That just proves my point. Tourists go there because they think they are doing something quintessentially canadian - which I guess they are. Still, it doesn't stop their coffee tasting like cats have been pissing in it.

Do you think tourists give a toss/know that's it's Canadian? I doubt it. Until recently it was in America's hands anyway. They probably think: I want a donut and cheap coffee, I'll go there.

I am a tea drinker, but I prefer to buy my tea in second cup because their large is the same price as the small (mainly because they use one teabag and just add more water in a bigger cup - works fine for me because I drink my tea black and dont like it too strong).

Tim Hortons charge more for a large tea, despite doing the same - one teabag in a larger cup and just add more water...

Yes I am cheap!
