I grew up in a small town railway station and this was our local train; engine, tender, baggage and mail car, freight car, passenger car, and caboose, not unlike the Hooterville Cannonball. Near the time of the photo (last run) I drove this train from our station to either the elevator or the section house, can't remember which, perched on the engineer's lap.

Throttle in hand.. only way for a little kid to see out the window of that thing. When the same train crew came back the next day in a diesel-electric locomotive they asked me if I'd like to drive that one as well. I climbed up the ladder and looked into the cab and saw the strange new controls and chickened out. I'd ridden in the cab of the steamer enough times I wasn't afraid of it, but the diesel was too new to me.

My wife is making me feel old. She will be 60 next month...who would have thought a chap like me could be sleeping with a 60 year old!

My children frequently ask me whether such-and-such was different "back when the world was all in black and white." Swines, the lot of them

Even in the 80's when I cranked up the gramophone to play jazz records in the club some people would spend a lot of time looking for wires and volume controls, amazed that it made music through arm-strong power.

When every other sentence at a ‘meet and greet’ With a new GP is prefaced with the words ‘at your age..’
Oh and becoming a great-aunt for the 3rd time will do it to you.

I'm a great aunt to 21 and great, great aunt 5 times over. How bad is that! Though in mitigation, for the 'great-great' bit, each generation did start producing sprogs at a rather young age, lol

When some star from your youth sits next to you in economy in a plane and is totally ignored, even tou dont recognise him till you conversate and discover. He and his small group were working on a cruise ship doing frank sinatra / brat gang impersonations plus of course his one big hit. Yes i was rickrolled, richard [rick] astley is now a frank...

Also, you walk into uk a&e after a skiing fall abroad, and are referred to a care of the elderly clinic and are recorded as an elderly fall incident, and when you complete the tick boxes nobody asks if you had a helmet or were in a too difficult run, but were your shoes grippy enough and do you need more handrails in the bath [im not even 60 yet?]
