Re: telus or Shaw
Bumping an old thread since it's the same question.
Currently with Shaw and have been since being in Canada, have no real complaints for what we get from them. However, the Telus deal for their new Optik system is pretty good. I was paying $105/mth for HD Basic plus High Speed with Shaw. The Telus deal (with a 3 year contract...) meant for $112/mth I would get Internet, HD You Pick (everything but movies in HD), free PVR rental & free Xbox 360. So a little more for some better service and my Shaw bill was due to go to $110 next month anyway. The neat thing I like about the Telus deal is their new system means you can watch recorded shows on multiple TVs. You do need hardware in each location, but the 360 can be used as a digi-box or I was planning on buying a new box for $150 to do this rather than use a power hungry 360. I could also sell my shaw HD box and PVR on Kijiji to make all this even more easy on the wallet. Called Shaw and they have got a short reprieve by getting me HD plus and reducing my bill to $63/mth for 6 months. In the mean time I still like this Telus deal, but want to check on Telus service. The Shaw guy did a good job planting the seed of doubt about their service since the one connection brings in TV & Internet. So what are peoples experience, if on Telus do you notice issues with internet service? |
Re: telus or Shaw
I've just had someone call at my house offering this deal with Telus too. We are on Shaw for internet & house phone and I'm quite happy with it especially the downloading speeds. My friend who has just moved over from the UK has internet with Telus and her d/l speeds are like she is on dial up!!

Re: telus or Shaw
Been with Telus for a year now. Outstanding service, no reception problems, no complaints. Were with Shaw prior to that and they were not interested in matching or getting close to the offer from Telus, so I switched. Shaw still have not got the message and keep sending me flyers, even after I phoned and told them not to. They don't seem to be able to follow simple instructions.
When Telus installed they put in new phone sockets by each TV no charge and came back and moved some stuff around, no charge. |

Very constructive and helpful answer. I don't think they are allowed to do that though!

Re: telus or Shaw
Four or five years ago Telus went through a terrible patch of customer service.
I have always been with Shaw (and Rogers before them) cable for TV and Internet but switched to Shaw for my land line when they started their digital phone service. Shortly afterward a Telus sales rep called me up to ask why I had canceled my Telus phone service. "I've switched to Shaw," I said, "Yes, well, I can understand that," was all he could reply. You don't hear so many complaints about Telus these days so I guess they have sorted some of their customer service problems out. I wouldn't go bank to them for the sake of a freebie however. I don't like the idea of being tied into a contract. |

My wife works for Shaw, so this is probably biased, but with Telus you have to have a digital receiver (or PVR) to get a signal, so if your free PVR packs up within the timescale of your contract, you would have to get it fixed, and in the time you have it fixed, you would have NO tv reception at all.

Same applies to Shaw, if their boxes pack up you will not get the digital or HD channels, although you will continue to receive the crappy other ones

Telus is bad and is getting worse (don't know about their TV, but their "high speed" internet is garbage) and it's getting worse. Their cell service is doing the same - I'm losing more and more text's into the ether. My son works for Shaw direct at their call centre so is very well versed in their satellite TV hardware and programming. We have Bell Satellite at home and he feels that it's much better than Shaw and he would choose Bell over Shaw every time. They can be a pain if you need to 'talk' to them though - but I don't think there's too much between them when it comes to customer service - it's a crap shoot. Thinking of switching to Rogers (same company as Shaw) for my cell phone, but we're rural so couldn't have cable even if we did want it. |
