telus or Shaw

heard about the good offer from Telus- free hd pvr, but are Telus any good, or should I stick to Shaw?

I have the preverble package, internet, phone, and TV

Just moved over to Telus and so far they have been exceptionally good. We have phone, Internet and satellite with them and get a good deal. Shaw is cable, they don't do satellite though.

I've got shaw for internet/phone/tv. The PVR is a pile of dog poo compared to sky plus, but I'm happy with the service overall.

I always went with Shaw, nothing but issues with Telus. Experiences will vary.

This seems to be the case with everything. I have been with BCTel then Telus for 15 years and never had anything but good service.

I used to be on Shaw, but moved to Telus to get the free HD PVR.

I had no problems with Shaw, and similarly have experienced none with Telus. The internet speeds are fast, the cable package gives me more channels, and the TV Guide thingy looks better.
Havent experienced any downtimes or anything, and would gladly recommend them...

Shaw wins hands down for me.

Telus tried to stitch us up when we moved house and make us pay for the 'free' desktop computer we had received. The only reason we originally had to change to Shaw was because Telus couldn't provide us with telephone plus internet in our new home, which happened to be in Calgary??!!

A couple of strongly worded letters, and the charge was dropped, but I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole. Shaw have provided a much better service, and we've found them to be alot cheaper than Telus

I prefer cable over satellite/DSL so would stick with Shaw.

You could call them up and say you are considering leaving unless they give you a better deal, they'll do something at least.

I recall now, that happened just as we left Starchoice, around the same time they put the bill up on no notice. Getting through on the phone required extreme patience if something went wrong. As our kit was old and we wanted HD, Starchoice would do nothing to keep us as a customer. The only deals were for new customers, then when I cancelled the account they came up with some offers, still not as good as Telus though. Telus installation was excellent and they put new phone jacks at all the receivers at no extra charge. Soon after the install one of the remotes went up the creek, Telus sent an engineer out to check and replace it.

One thing I like with satellite is the time shifting. The networks from every time zone.

We were with Telus for 2 years and changed to Shaw when we moved to Sherwood Park. We didn't like Telus, mainly problems with internet and emails.

Hi,
I did as suggested, called Shaw and told them I may leave to go to Telus, I was offered full cable package for 6 months free ( currently have just basic) and a hd PVR for 6 months free, then to purchase it for just $249, and the current digital box I rent for $2.95, completely free .

Really happy with that so sticking to Shaw, thanks for everybody,s input

You'll probably find your PVR is rather redundant once the free period ends and your back to basic cable.

Re: telus or Shaw

When we lived in Canada, we had both. Telus first (internet and phone) and then Shaw for phone, internet and cable.

I have to say that I preferred Shaw service, especially in later years. You could never get a real live person at Telus and their service was terrible (if you needed a call out, see you in 2-3 days kinda thing). Shaw tended to send someone within a day.

That said, Shaw fell out of my good books after we moved and they kept our credit from our account until recently. We had about $130 credit on file, they acknowledged this, yet it took them 5 months to send us the cheque. They said it was "processing." We had to call and harass them weekly for months to get our refund. Actually my family back in Canada had to do this. We had left Canada by then.

So, I guess as long as they don't owe you any money, Shaw is fine.
