How many dogs does it cost per night? You could pick up dogs for free off Kijiji so it would make a cheap stay in PEI if they accept dogs;)

Unless you have something planned for Moncton, I'd push on to NS or do the PEI thing. Might feel like a long journey, though, unless you're sharing the driving.

Really? What about the Bay of Fundy?

Which places would you recommend we stay?

Dog exchange rate is good at the mo so we taking advantage of it, just as long as we don't get cats or a hamster in change ;)

Quite seriously if you need to stop on the way there's a hotel just outside Quebec City that takes dogs. We had three dogs totaling 400lbs. They didn't even charge us extra!!

All the hotels we have booked are pet friendly, we only have the one dog a 7 year old Shitzu

He never seen the sea so be interesting when he tries to drink it like he does the lake water.

A predecessor to Stinky did that, drank too much and basically it was like giving her a bowel prep before a colonoscopy or a doggie enema - she lifted her tail and a fountain of disgustingness sprayed like a hosepipe from her arse..dogs are stupid:(

Most the hotels I called had a 20lb limit which I'm assuming a Shitzu is under?

He might try drinking the salt water once...

And I bet yours have never done anything stomach-churning

Hmm "Disgusting things your pets have got up to" an idea for a thread- certainly less dull than..."Where in Canada is it best to live?"

For Fundy, Parrsboro (and Partridge island). Check out Five Islands provincial park on the way to Halifax. Time your visits with the tides, as seeing some of those areas at low tide, then later at high tide, is obviously a big part of the Fundy experience. Be prepared, as it can be very windy on the shores.

If you want even more Fundy action, follow the bay around through the Maitlands and look for adventure there. Tidal bores and reverse river flows can be seen in a few locations (Truro can be a little underwhelming).

Halifax is pretty small for a city but nice enough. Big boardwalk there, cruise ships, casino, theatres, the citadel. If you stay in the city, expect an additional $20 parking fee at the hotel per night. I've had stays in many of the city, Bedford and airport hotels and they all seem to have their pros and cons.

Lunenburg and Peggys Cove are the must-do tourist day trips. Peggys Cove is a bit of a "tourist conveyor belt" but you're expected to visit if visiting NS. (It's possible that many of those that visit Peggys Cove to see the light house, are completely unaware of Swissair flight 111, or the frequency that people get washed off the rocks there.)

If you have the time, spend a full day at Kejimkujik national park, or go for lunch and wander at Annapolis Royal.

Why Kingston? You've barely got started on your journey and it's not pretty.

Thanks for this. I've looked at the map again and we will have to stop somewhere in NB but will make it just one night on the way there and one night on the way back.

I like Kingston too. Nice size town in my opinion in a nice setting and not too far from Toronto!

I'm definitely not a proponent of NB / Moncton but from experience the best place to see the Bay of Fundy is definitely Hopewell Rocks followed by a trip to Alma and the Fundy Park, especially if you do the two visits to HR to see high and low tide. It is definitely worth taking the time, then heading straight for Halifax / Peggys Cove.
