Default Sorel Snow Boots

Hi all, I am investigating Snow Boots!

I've noticed that the brand 'Sorel' is being stocked in the UK. I wonder if anyone would recommend this brand? Or any other brand of Snow Boots that would be suitable for Ontario winters?

Thanks in advance!

Sorel are a well known manufacturer of mountain equipment. What do you mean by snow boots and what do you intend to use them for - posing in pub or scaling high peaks?

My feet have a great deal of experience of Ontario winters. For driving a tractor without a cab in order to clear snow, wellies lined with a stiff blanket material proved the best. Not sure if they have a brand or where I got them, probably Tractor Supply or Western Implement. In all other conditions my feet thrive in Doctor Marten's though it's increasingly difficult to find pairs marked "Made in England" and I'd rather not have the Chinese crap version.

Haha! No to 'posing in pubs', I was just curious what Canadians would wear for just travelling around in the winter? I imagine the snow boots would be great for walking in those cold temperatures!

Ah! I thought wellies would be too cold for the winter? My feet are always freezing in them unless I have big fleecy socks. Doc Martens have great grips so I imagine they'd be pretty good.

To be honest the stores are stacked with lots of footwear that will suffice. No need to buy them in the UK.

One can buy all manner of conventional wellies with thermal liners. From Walmart own brand to high end. Something best left until you are in Canada as AC says.

Ah well, I will buy them in Canada instead, when I get there! This visa stuff is driving me nuts. Trying to be too organised I guess by thinking ahead.

I bought a pair of Sorel boots a couple of years ago but they haven't been out of the box as it hasn't snowed enough to wear them, but they do seem very nice and I got a good deal on them as I paid cash.

I purchased a pair if these http://www.sears.ca/product/sorel-me...0325704-NM1000 the first winter I was here. They were worn daily for farm work outdoors, and lasted a winter and a half before the outer rubbery plastic started cracking and coming apart. I replaced them with http://www.basspro.com/Irish-Setter-...10200015/60993 which have proven warmer and far more durable (had them 5 years now). The Sorel boots are fine for average/light use, but don't stand up to heavier duties.

I've just purchased my first set of Sorels after being here for almost 3 years.
I started with a set of hiking style boots with a rubber lower half - great for slush and a little bit of snow. But my feet still got cold, even with thick socks on.
So I moved up to a set of insulated boots from Walmart - very similar to Sorels but only about $80. They kept my feet warmer but after a day on the lake ice fishing in -20, my feet were cold. Also, one of the pull on tabs broke in the first week and some other stitching is not the best quality.
So, I've bit the bullet and got the Sorels. My main reason for purchase is to keep my feet warm and so far, so good. I've only been out in them in -16 (this morning actually) and about 4" of snow so they still haven't been fully tested. For info, I paid about $120.

A lot depends on the individual person - I tend to suffer with cold hands and feet and need the most insulated stuff out there, while the wife is happy with just a thin pair of gloves and standard shoes.

Love my Sorels, but would never buy them at UK prices. Get them when you get to Canada.

These are what keep my feet warm in parade season, although its not been an issue so far this year. $90 well spent. They have lasted better than the marks work warehouse Tristar boots I had initially.

HID got a pair of UGG snow boots last year which she thinks are brilliant. I thought they were a bit spendy but you know women, eh?
