Snow Report 2008!
I thought, maybe, that those of us that live here could post when the 1st snowfall of this year is/was and maybe how often it snows and what sort of quantity we're shovelling. You never know some folk in the UK may find the info useful. What do ya think?
|
Re: Snow Report 2008!
Looks like our first proper snowfall is today.
2-4cms is a reasonable average in any one time here. A heavy snowfall might drop 15cm. Prior to January, there's a chance that it'll thaw - a brown Christmas isn't unusual. Accumulation over the whole winter period is perhaps 3ft. I have too much property to bother with a shovel. ATV/tractor combo plows and shifts it. |

Re: Snow Report 2008!
Cochrane, Alberta - unusually mild October for 2008 (who's complaining?).
First snowfall - 4th November - couple of cm's - not worth shovelling. Melted quickly. Next snowfall - 20th November - couple of cm's - not worth shovelling. Nothing of note on the ground now. Currently smug after watching Ontario and Atlantic provinces on Weather Channel. Smugness probably won't last long though, eh? :sneaky: Last year, probably only shovelled small amounts of snow (max about 6cm) about 7 times. Too much brown grass on show. No snow at Christmas (though it did snow on Boxing Day). One major snowdump of about 25cm in May, but all melted and gone again in a few days. Come to Cochrane  |
Re: Snow Report 2008!
Nowt. Keeps being mentioned on the weather reports but nothing ever comes of it.
Smuggity smug  |
Re: Snow Report 2008!
No snow and temps in the double digits here in St John's. Dare I observe that the weather is actually better here than Vancouver at present?;)
|
Re: Snow Report 2008!
First snow here October 28/29 (11.2cm). Then it melted. There have been 12 snow days since 10 November (total 21cm). The final snow fall last year was on 12 April. It was 23 degrees a week later and I got sunburn. Total snowfall last year 435cm (14.3 feet). That was unusual. The average is about 220cm.

Second one this week about 1cm  amazing really to say the snow by this time last year was approx 1 foot deep  |
Re: Snow Report 2008!

|
Re: Snow Report 2008!
joining the smug gang at the mo - just bloody cold here in Drum
|
Re: Snow Report 2008!
We have about a dozen square inches of snow in the back yard where it's in shadow all day... otherwise nothing. So still no chance to test the snow tires after it all melted last weekend :).
|
Re: Snow Report 2008!
A light sprinkling here about 2 weeks ago. Quickly melted and nothing since. This time last year we had about 2 feet. We're running about 0 during the day and -6 overnight.
The snow fence is up and ready! |
Re: Snow Report 2008!
Apparently it snowed a little last week (while we were in Florida:sneaky:)
The weather channel keeps moving the little snow flakes further on the weekly chart. Ski season kicks off tomorrow at Rabbit Hill  Where's my snow???? Linda |
Re: Snow Report 2008!
Have been having sprinklings of snow for around 3 weeks but had our first
major 'dump' around mid Nov and had 3 consecutive mornings last week of snowblowing the drive. We have around a foot and don't think we will be seeing green grass for a while! My children had a PA Day today and guess what we did - went sledging!!! |

Well, in Downtown Vancouver we are enjoying a great season of RAIN!:confused:
The mountains however (Whistler / Blackcomb) have opened for the season so guess there is enough of the white stuff up there!!!!:thumbsup: As for the North Shore, if I could only see through the clouds I'd tell you ;) May be heading up to W for a day's skiing next w/end, will report back! That said, it's no usual for Vancouver, although it was forcast for today, yet we just go more of that wonderful stuff they call RAIN!!!! Bx |

Ditto here for Bragg Creek, although it does hang around longer here than Cochrane. Great tobogganing on Boxing Day down our hill!

Re: Snow Report 2008!
A great deal of snow fell overnight. There are very high winds. All of the schools in the county are closed. I was disheartened that the driver's side windshield wiper fell off this morning as that compounded the problem of not being able to see for blowing snow.

Only until tomorrow I would guess. Back into double digits here then so cue melting of the meagre smattering of snow on the North Shore mountains - we were skiing on Grouse by this time last year.
We may pay in a heavy coin for our current smugness later on in the winter! |
Re: Snow Report 2008!
We were meant to get crapped on last night. I got up at five in anticipation.
SFA. It's above zero and raining. I think the weather made a small detour. |

K So this year we have put up a snow fence which is designed to create the drift where we want it - not in the middle of our roadway! They come in all sorts of material, ours is a striking orange plastic. First snow today - Dec 1st. Only about 1/2 inch though |
Re: Snow Report 2008!
Well, still here in the rainy city - and guess what - it's raining!!!
The north shore mountains have had all the snow rained away - well for skiing htat is.... 14 day forcast however says we're in for a cold spell next week and snow - it is 'said' it will be -7 from next Wednesday through the w/end, and it will be snowing! Hopefully that will help both the N Shore, but also Whistler where I heard it has been raining even high up on the hill.... Bx |
