That is sooooooooooooo pretty....

I know we're not going to get that downtown Van, but would just love to see snow on the North Shore as the mountains are still not open for skiing, and Whistler still hasn't got any snow on the bottom half of the mountain....

May go Ice Skating on Grouse this w/end however, but I'll end up on my *rse for most of it I know!!!!

The flurries finished 30 mins after they started - I have a feeling they'll sneak back in the middle of the night though;)

Yeah I couldnt believe it watching the travel cams on the news this morning, there was hardly anything at all in Calgary. They said Millarville had it bad, then it comes round to us and then said Cochrane had a 'dusting' - anyway it keeps OH fit doing the shovelling, but with his bad back at the moment and my bad knee I think we ought to put a plea out for a 'snow angel' ;) ;)

For what it's worth (probably not much!) my OH woke up in Manchester (UK)yesterday morning to a light blanket of snow! I spoke to him mid morning and he said it was snowing again with great big flakes! I am the worlds biggest kid when it comes to snow so was gutted we didn't get any in South Wales.

Please please have some in Calgary before the weekend as I am coming out to view a house to rent ready for us to move in on Feb 1st - or at least have some there ready for us for January!

Where in the MCR area.....there can be a big difference in amount of snow between say Dukinfield/Hyde versus Irlam/Cadishead in amount of snow and temps.

Re: Snow Report 2008!

Yesterday we awoke to the highly dangerous thing called freezing rain which in turn turns to black ice/sheet ice. Not little patches of the stuff on damp corners but everywhere. Roads closed, pavements to icy to stand up on, even back lanes were slippy, it was horrible and only the second time we have experienced the stuff since being here - this is our 4th winter. I would trade black ice for snow anyday. Funnily enough that's what we woke up to today:rofl: Only about 1/2 inch and now it's being drizzled away.

So far every winter we have had has popped something new up, not one has been the same as the last - hey it's exciting not knowing quite what to expect:eek:

Still nothing on the North Shore mountains in Vancouver!

Went Ice Skating up there last night, and although the upper runs had 'snow', it was I believe artificial.

The ice rink however was fun - no accidents by any of us, and I only fell over once!!!!

Just praying for more, as want to try out all my new gear!!!

Snow squalls today, another 6 inches of blowing snow on top of what we had already have from a couple of weeks. unfortunately Santa cannot get into Collingwood today due to the weather and the Parade has had to be cancelled. Hopefully next Sunday will be a go!

Just a guess - it's hard to tell here, we seem to have much of ours blow away! What was the official measurement then?

Oh lovely. The forecast for today is a low of -20, with a windchill of -26.

Up to 50cm of snow forecast over the next few days.:(

Re: Snow Report 2008!

we have had snow over the last few days and the lowest was 15 below but wind chills are what makes it 26 below, just now its only 10 below 0 and the sun is shining but the winds are the killers when they start

-9 today, with the wind chill, about -14. Not much snow forecast, only about 1cm.......but it's snowed more than that since 6 this morning!!
This is my first winter in Canada, and all the locals love telling me that this year will be the coldest year ever, and my fragile English body wont be able to cope! One guy even told me my nose would fall off if I wasn't careful! hahaha, I love Canadians!

Ooh - proper snow in Calgary right now. Drove daughter into city centre for 10am, not too bad; stopped off at Canadian Tyre for some more Xmas lights, and when I came out 40 mins later - woah - big snow.

Pootled home carefully - roads not nice - and passed three accidents. Currently about 4 inches on back deck. Still coming down steadily.

Got to drive back into Calgary centre later on to collect daughter - not looking forward to that, if only because to get out of our development is back up a serious hill again  Might go a different way!

Two hours to clear the snow today. Four hours if you count the time it took to install the chains on the tractor tyres. Very cold, -10C without the wind chill and an absolutely ferocious wind. I don't think more than a couple of inches fell all weekend but the wind shifted snow from far and wide and dumped it in our lane.

Easing up now, 14cm (5.5") so far according to the weather office.

Looks like a white Christmas is a good possibility for Calgary this year.

You'll be happy to know that WJBK now shows the temp for their neighbours in Windsor in metric. I am appalled though, obviously ;)

We had to go out today too... and on our way home at around 3-30 this afternoon we found that Center street was blocked because one of the BRT buses (the bendy ones) had skidded and was sort of jackknifed across the road totally blocking it.... detour via some very very snowy sidestreets, one of which was blocked by yet another bus.

Also several accidents where people had gone off the road

Today we had the first real snow - a mighty 5cm/2 inches that soon melted away under the rain and rising temps. This week looks a tad damp but mild. Newfoundland doing its Vancouver impressions.

Happy shovelling!

No, it's as advertised ice pellets. Hail comes from thunderstorms in the summertime.
