Snow! Call that snow?!
Having read some of the posts so far about winter in Canada, the full delights of which I have yet to discover. This did bring a smile.
BBC issued a 'severe weather' warning for the South East for Friday. Wait for it... 'Heavy snowfall will affect parts of east and southeast England through Friday. 5-10cms will fall at low levels with 15-20cms over high ground.' How will us Souhern softy Brits ever cope?:) |

But I bet you deal with it better. We always seem so ill prepared, despite the warnings.

It's just what you're used to, Canada would go to pieces if there was a bomb in a public place whereas the UK marches on. Canada doesn't have the tools to deal with that sort of thing because it's rare, just as the south-east of England isn't set up for heavy snow, nor earthquakes.

Echoing what the others (AC, Souv and dbd) said (note 3 different 'cities' in three different Provinces).
10cm can indeed cause problems. In fact recently a damn sight less than 10cm caused chaos in Calgary  |

Of course, if you live in area where the roads are closed you're obliged to ignore the closures; life goes on, driving just becomes something else for which the unhyphenated can issue tickets and penalties. |

No-one had experienced a contingency such as 9-11 before it happened, I doubt that anybody can really criticise the way the people on the ground dealt with the aftermath.

Actually, I'd agree with that. I'm sure the people dishing out the vaccines at a local level knew exactly what they were doing, but it doesn't matter how good they are if the politicians botch the job and cause panic everywhere (which they did).

In Hx,Yorks, the problem is often the traffic not the snow - everyone heading out at once - it is clear once the traffic is out of the way. |

I think it was about 1" - 1.5" any way, the whole country came to a halt, both Gatwick & Heathrow were closed!! trains and buses stopped, that's how badly the UK is prepared for any snow. The good thing about snow in Kent is, that they always close blue bell hill which meant that I got to leave work early, while locals had to stick it out till 5.30pm
