A slow cooker 'Roast' Chicken is good. Stick a few chunky chopped Veggies in the bottom and put the chicken on top. Put the lid on, turn the cooker on and leave it for a few hours. Comes out pretty good. Can be eaten with Salad on a sunny day!

Its one thing to hunt them for food but to keep them as pets is cruel.

I hate slow cookers with a passion. I think meat, apart from ground meats, cooked in it has a terrible texture and the flavour seems to be ripped right out of the meat. The sauces taste good as they have all the flavour. Carrots come out with the texture and taste of canned carrots.

I think the damn things are only good for soups, beans and ground meat dishes but as you have to fry everything first it seems a waste of time.

Good luck with that then

Pulled Pork - YUMMY. It's what is in my slow cooker right now as I have worked all day and we have a Japanese trip meeting at the school tonight, so I won't have time to cook.

The recipe is:

1 onion
1 boneless pork shoulder - I usually use a third of a loin thingy from Costco
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup honey
1 bottle BBQ sauce
6 minced garlic cloves
salt/pepper
1 teaspoon ground ginger

Yummy rolls to pop it in.

Bung ingredients in slow cooker, Cook all day on low heat, use spoon or fork and shred it all and dollop in rolls.

I've also done brisket which was also good:

1 Brisket (2 1/2 pounds)
1 tbsp liquid smoke
salt/pepper
1/2 chopped onion
1/2 cup tom ketchup
2 tsp dijon mustard
1/2 tsp celery seed - I probably used something else.

Also a couple of chicken breasts with a condensed mushroom soup, some mustard and honey with some carrots/peas/onions has worked well - almost a chicken tonight type thingy.

I tend to do everything on low if it's all day, if it's half a day then I start with high and then turn it down. Remember as it cooks liquid will happen so you either need less liquid or add cornstarch to thicken sauces.

Does it not taste wootbeerish?

I must admit tonights one is half a jar of BBQ sauce, a squirt of ketchup and some salsa as it's all I could be bothered with.

I like tonights recipe way better PP lols

Did the chicken with the soups this evening, was bloody lovely must admit.

Root beer? That's mental, so you just pour it over the pork and away you go?

Does nobody else on here think the meat texture is terrible and tasteless? Sure it's tender but...

Actually no it doesn't taste anything like root beer (I thought sis in law was mad when she did it).

Yup pour it over the pork - switch it on and job done!

Noo, did you not read my post woman?? I said that the sauce tastes good but all the flavour seems to leach out of the meat which ends up tasting like soft cardboard. Not just my cooking too but have tried other crockpot cooks offerings.

Reminds me of my Mother's typical Scottish approach to cooking: Stick in a stone with the food and when the stone is soft the meat is done!
