To slipper or not to slipper

Living in Canada, keeping warm is obviously of paramount importance and now it’s getting chillier its even more important. The question I have, and it probably more for the blokes on here, but do you wear slippers or not? And, if so, what kind do you wear? I’ve never been a slipper person myself, I've always thought once you’ve gone down the slipper route you’ve sort given up on life. HID has a nice fluffy pair of Ugg ones and lately I’ve found I’m considering getting pair of slippers myself, it’s all very unnerving. As for the related dressing gown issue, I'm afraid that's too hideous to contemplate.

Re: To slipper or not to slipper

Depending on my mood I still find the house warm enough for bare feet but if nipping into the garage for a smoke I put on a pair of moccasin type shoes/slippers. I also have a pair of animal head (brown bear) slippers that if the mood suits I can wear. Basically if I'm home alone then who gives a **** what I'm wearing on my feet.
I do admit though Im not comfortable wearing the traditional slipper which may or may not have a plaid liner.
Definitely not a bathrobe or dressing gown type of guy.

No slippers!! Just flip flops at door if I need Owt from car in rain or snow, otherwise Bare foot is the way to go forward from here.

That's been my dress code mostly. The thing is, although I live in a high-rise apartment building, I have a storage room down the corridor from me and I keep a lot of tinned food etc, so I often pop down there for something and its a pain to keep putting on shoes.

Re: To slipper or not to slipper

I have been thoroughly trained in slipper etiquette for the last thirty something years so I am a lost cause. However, as my own little act of rebellion, I wear moccasins in the rooms of the house where slippers are appropriate. I am not completely under the thumb.

Slippers - or to give them their proper name, baffies - are the best footwear a chap can own. Getting just the right baffies is a source of some stress for me; being stuck with an unsatisfactory pair can literally ruin an entire year.

Dressing gowns are less stressful, though still absolutely necessary to prevent one's house guests from witnessing something ghastly at breakfast.

I suppose you'd have to match it with your cravat and spats. ;)

I like the word "baffles" though, I might have to try work that into conversation.

It's not baffles, it's baffies.

I use specially designated house shoes. Which are regular shoes (comfortable breathable sneaker type things) that have been specially designated for use only in the house.

I often forget to put them on and sometimes I go out but forget that I have them on. But no one knows, so that's ok.

Did try slippers at one point, after many many years of resistance, and discovered that my resistance was not in vain. Generally use some slip on shoes that are for inside only or socks. In summer, even Crocs.

I can't imagine life without my slippers and a dressing gown:blink:....my husband would sooner die of exposure than wear a dressing gown or Jim jams, I have got him into slippers though, but nice ones, that are more like soft shoes, not old men plaid ones.

Something like this is good - don't even need to take them off for a walk to a nearby store.

Surely wearing them out to the store and then treading all the dirt and grit back into the house rather defeats the point of having "indoor shoes" in the first place?

I tend to go barefoot in the summer. In winter a pair of slippers both keeps my feet warm and stops me slipping on the hardwood in my socks. I find sheepskin suede things a bit too warm, though - mine were once a rather natty fleece-and-suede moccasin design, but are now rather threadbare. I suspect one or other of the offspring will provide a new pair at Christmastime.

I wear a pair of these around the house. As is, for the summer, then add socks as necessary for the winter (just moved onto the winter look in the last week or so).

Having always thought slippers were extremely 'lame' for quite a while, I was given a pair of North Face 'slippers' as a present a few years ago and they're fantastic.

They're an older version of these: http://www.thenorthface.com/catalog/...%20TNF%20BLACK

Depends if there's any dirt on the way to the store and whether your mum taught you to wipe your feet when entering your house. :).

I love my slippers. I think it all started as a throwback from freezing boarding school floors in the dorm; and a Matron who'd break your toes if she saw them exposed.

The addition of socks possibly counteracts an fanny magnet effect they may in themselves posses.

Since going to wooden flooring I have a pair of memory foam slippers. They are wonderful and I wear them all the time inside.

My teenage Son has now started wearing them when I am at work, I know what he is getting for Christmas. Doesn't every 17 year old boy want a pair of slippers for Christmas?

I started wearing slippers a couple of years ago and did think it was because I was getting older sadly.

BUT I discovered that if you wear the bootie kind of slippers your ankles stay warm too... Niiice!!

As for men wearing dressing gowns...yes please, it makes them so so cuddly!!!!

Barefoot in the summer. In winter, I wear a pair of Crocs that are only ever worn inside. I have learned to not walk around in socks in a house that is 100% wood floors. Deffo not on stairs (particularly if there is no handrail).

Re: To slipper or not to slipper

Oink.. No, No, NO. I can't see you as a slipper man !

Wearing them is a point where life is ebbing away from you ! ;)

I go bear foot in the house and have an old pair of flip flops (which are dropping to bits but comfy!) by the back door to go out with the dog if need be. Otherwise I'll just go into the garage bear foot and even if popping outside for something quickly I'll go bare foot (and yes we do have mats inside the house to wipe feet)

I won't even get onto the dressing gown saga....

Man up and go bear foot.....:D

P.S. and Yes, I've had the cane, slipper and hand across the back of the leg in front of the school during assembly and there's nothing wrong with me.... The odd twitch and flashback and the need for heavy medication in the form of alcohol but isn't that normal ;)

I remember when as teenager I was down the pub and was ogling this girl and the old bloke next to me said he'd rather have a meat pie than sex. That's sort like wearing a dressing gown, you've signalled to the world that you've given up any hope and its the beginning of the end. :(

Didn't help with your spelling though. Bare foot not bear foot, unless you have very hairy feet and claws in which case you don't need footwear and live up to you avatar.

Do you really go outside in flipflops in the winter?

We have slippers/indoor shoes and take them with us when we go visiting.

Didn't realise that I had to have correct spelling and be gramatically correct on the forum but shall try better next time.

And yep - I do wear flip flops or go bare foot just to pop out and in (when flipping steaks over on the BBQ for example)

When visiting I'll take my shoes off when I enter the house but don't take anything with me.
