Rangers will only come back as something new anyway.............

Celtic aren't in financial trouble like Rangers, there's no danger of that happening in the enar future. But, they feed off each other. For too many of their fans, the only 4 games that count each season are the Old Firm games.

Rangers will - in my opinion - lose this tax case and be forced into liquidation. Craig Whyte will form a new 'phoenix' company and start again. The question is, should the 'new' Rangers be allowed straight back into the SPL? I say no, that's not right. But that is certainly what they will ask for, and almost certainly Celtic will support them.

At the moment they bully every other team in Scotland to suit their own wishes. If Rangers can overspend to the extent that they go bust, and yet simply restart as though nothing has happened, what message does that send? - Cue every other SPL club lining up to do the same thing - clear the debts and start over... that's just wrong.

So, Glasgow Rangers FC no longer exist.

The other teams in the Scottish Premier League have just today voted overwhelmingly to refuse an application from "NewCo Rangers" to join the SPL. Their place will be taken by either Dundee or Dunfermline.

That now leaves "NewCo Rangers" in the position that they will have to submit an application to join the Scottish Football League who run the 3 lower divisions. Feelings are running very strong at the moment, and there is definitely no certainty that the application will be approved. There are a number of other clubs who, perhaps rightfully, think their applications to join the SFL should be considered ahead of a late "NewCo Rangers" application.

One of the criteria to join the SFL is to submit 3 years of accounts, which, being a brand new entity, "NewCo Rangers" cannot provide. (Their proper name at the moment is SevCo 5088 Limited).

Could we really see a season in Scottish football without a "Rangers"? :)

Why did Celtic vote against New Rangers joining the SPL?

Is this an opportunity for the English league to invite Rangers to join? Would either party want that?

Celtic already knew that the vote was massively agaisnt Rangers. I am certain that they (the Celtic board) would have liked to vote "Yes" but the Celtic support wuld have lynched them if they had.

Celtic are now terrified. The SPL had a ludicrous 11-1 vote system, whereby the Old Firm voted as a unit to block any attempt at change - for example changing the financial distribution. Now with Rangers out of the way, they cannot block change from the "diddy clubs". I liken it to a big Green bully and a big Blue bully who had together terrorised the playground. Now the big Blue bully has been sent to detention, and suddenly the big Green bully is own his own. The ten wee kids now coming at him suddenly don't look so small any more...

No chance of Rangers going to the English leagues. Rangers are bust, they will be liquidated. They do not exist anymore. That's why it's conceivable that they don't even get a place in the lower Scottish leagues, because the "NewCo" does not have any accounts to submit, does not have a license. It doesn't have a full squad, as many of the players have left, under TUPE rules, refusing to be transferred from Rangers FC to the "newCo".

There remain huge unresolved legal and taxation issues which may impact the new Club. The officially appointed liquidators, BDO, haven't started their work yet, and may yet have things to say about the transfer of assets to Charles Green's company.

No doubt everyone wants to kick the bully when he's down but how does it help all the clubs to have Rangers kicked out totally? Wouldn't it have been better for the smaller SPL clubs to have allowed Rangers back in but on their terms?

Commercially, it probably would have. But the 'diddy club' chairmen were collectively put under enormous pressure from their own fans not to accept that. I'm proud that so many clubs decided to put 'sporting integrity' ahead of money at any price - a welcome change in football.

Rangers would not have willingly acquiesced to sanctions or reduced terms. They already went to court to overturn one of the initial sanctions placed on them as a result of their mismanagement. Indeed, the only half-hearted apology from them was issued the eve of the vote, and you could almost hear the spokesman crossing his fingers behind his back.

That's fair enough. I lived in Dundee in the mid 90s so can appreciate what would happen to Rangers/Celtic if the boot were on the other foot. It looks like Rangers went on a spending spree at about the same time as Leeds but couldn't buy success and have been cooking the books ever since?

Tell me about it. Apparently there are now guide books for Japanese citizens who are touring Scotland to avoid people wearing football related attire.

Couldn't agree more.

"Rangers" manager Ally McCoist was at an Orange Walk yesterday in Stirling.
