The Scottish Fitba' Thread
There must be a few Scottish football fans in here?
Right now, as an Arab, I am on Cloud 9... we've got a Scottish Cup Final on May 15th against Ross County, and we're breathing down a jittery Celtic's neck for 2nd place in the League. Dundee United for the Champions League next year?? ;)  |

Re: The Scottish Fitba' Thread
Not a great time to be a Celtic fan - is there ever is such a time. ;)
Was just looking at our remaining fixtures: Rangers (H) Motherwell (A) Celtic (H) Rangers (H) Hearts (A) Hibs (H) 3 Old Firm games, all at home. Celtic are collapsing, and Rangers will probably have won the League by next week. We have 6 games to make up 5 points of Celtic. Any Aberdeen fans here? Anyone got anything nice to say about Mark McGoo? :p |
Re: The Scottish Fitba' Thread
With all due respect and as a former (many years back) Scottish fitbba fan I must say that after watching it on Setanta, it really is second rate at best. Once exposed to the Premiership and other of Europe's premier leagues the SPL is, to say the least, most disappointing.

And in Scotland, it's not all about the Old Firm either, despite their best efforts at hoovering up most of the cash in the Scottish game. |

Re: The Scottish Fitba' Thread
Are you OK for a link to watch the final live or do you want me to stick one up for you on the day ??
|
Re: The Scottish Fitba' Thread
Link would be great thanks, if I can't find a pub showing it. Might be difficult seeing that neither of the Bigot Brothers are in the final.
Edit to add: I really do hope that the Dees get promoted, we need the derbies again. But I can't help feeling that they have blown their best chance in years to win the Div. 1 title. |
Re: The Scottish Fitba' Thread
Doubtfull it will be on tv here as bbc have the contract for cup games - I will get a veetle link for it the day of the game
may be worth your while downloading veetle beforehand so you are ready to go - the link we have is private so it wont be overloaded (I wont be watching unless I hear utd are 2 down at half time :p ) |

Re: The Scottish Fitba' Thread
I am hiding this season  and am so glad I am into hockey nowadays.
My 15 year old son is still a Dons fan and the peer wee soul would like wee trip home so he can go to a live game - I must encourage him to set his standards a bit higher ;) |
Re: The Scottish Fitba' Thread
If their season carrys on the way its going his live game may be at somewhere like Clyde or Forfar next season
|
Re: The Scottish Fitba' Thread
Ah, I was wondering about all the obscure posts about Ross County I was getting on facebook. It all becomes clear.
|
Re: The Scottish Fitba' Thread
Rangers are complaining about the post-split fixtures - they've got 3 away games on the trot.
They're 11 points clear of Celtic, whose wheels have come off, and they're qualifying for the Champion's League next year. Given the disproportionate financial benefits to other clubs from an Old Firm visit, do they think anyone else in Scottish football has a shred of sympathy for their oh-so-dreadful plight?:p |
Re: The Scottish Fitba' Thread
Can hardly type for the tears

Re: The Scottish Fitba' Thread
Hibs fan here:thumbsup:

Re: The Scottish Fitba' Thread
Rats!
Celtic have to thank their teenage defender for scoring 2 goals and coming back from behind to beat Motherwell! |

Re: The Scottish Fitba' Thread
No probs, I was at work anyway, so had to settle for the BBC text updates. Sounds like 0-0 was a fair result, but a stupid sending off for our Mr Kovacevic.

Re: The Scottish Fitba' Thread
Any thoughts on SPL changing to a league revenue sharing formula? It's a small league with only two well financed teams and maybe this would be an answer...I was curious as to what footie fans thought of this.
|
Re: The Scottish Fitba' Thread
Cant see the Old Firm agreeing to that to be honest - would be good for the rest of the teams though
|
Re: The Scottish Fitba' Thread
Nice idea, but no chance of getting the Bigot Bros to take their hands out of the cookie jar!
|
Re: The Scottish Fitba' Thread
I feel I need to stick up for the "bigot bros".
It's well documented the sectarian element among old firm supporters, (and dont forget just about every ground in Scotland)...but what's forgotten is the vast majority of fans are decent fans who enjoy their football and rivalry...just like any other cities with two big clubs. It's hardly Celtic and Rangers fault, the other clubs dont attract bigger crowds. The old firm are there for the taking...it's up to other clubs to take advantage of this...there's never been a better time. Most clubs raise their game against the old firm.....why not do that every week, be less negative and have a go. Look at Hearts under Burley a few seasons ago. I would like nothing better than someone else to win the league:eek:....and i'm a Celtic fan:eek: |
Re: The Scottish Fitba' Thread
I hear you, of course, about the majority of OF fans being (nearly ;)) normal people. I do get fed up with the glory-hunting aspects of some supporters. When i were a lad, I always found it upsetting to see Celtic & Rangers supporters buses leaving for Glasgow from Dundee, and then to have classmates turning up to Dens or Tannadice only to go the the 'away' end.
But that's by-the-by. The bigger problem for Scottish football is that the OF one the one hand bemoan the lack of decent opposition on a weekly basis, but then on the other, they immediately buy up the other SPL team's decent players and keep them on the bench. Also, despite being far and away the richest clubs in Scotland, they then collude and do despicable things like suddenly imposing a 5% fee from the home clubs for the away tickets sold to Old Firm fans!! Anyway, back to today, I think that Celtic's win over Hibs makes it very difficult for United to overhaul them now. Will Lennon be in the green hot-seat next year, d'you think? |
Re: The Scottish Fitba' Thread
The greatest fans in the world welcome their team bus back after the Ross game

Re: The Scottish Fitba' Thread
Well, that's the end of Dundee's bid for promotion to the SPL.
I'm sorry for all Dee fans, even as an Arab I was looking forward to derbies again. What a disastrous finish to a season that started so well. Congrats to Inverness CT. |
