So sorry for your loss. I know how hard it is----- like losing a child .
Best wishes.

I have a dog & have had to have one put to sleep in the past. I feel for Tangram, and offer my condolences, but if you seriously think that losing a dog is like losing a child, then I implore you to get a sense of perspective.

I echo that. Losing a loved pet is painful but nothing like losing a loved family member. I know this. My mum carked on Sunday.

Condolences too to Souvy.
I too am an animal lover. Our animals were considered part of the family;well cared for and well loved and when they died they were sorely missed and grieved over.
I have friends who were unable to have children and their pets helped to fill the void in their lives and when the pets died they told me that it was as if a child had died.
For the record my only daughter died five years ago. I do know about the pain and anguish of such a loss. I miss her and still grieve for her and always will.

Sorry to read about your loss tangram, having always had pets I know how much a part of the family they become and how sad it can be to lose a pet
Sorry to hear of your family loss souvy, it can be tough especially if your not close by. I lost my uncle and grandad with only two years apart and I was out of the country both times

I'm sad to say that Kaiser, our 6 month old German Shepherd passed away this morning.
Yesterday he had some diarrhoea and a lot of vomiting. We contacted the vet on call and took him in yesterday evening as he wasn't improving. His blood works were fine and his temperature and heart rate were normal, but obviously dehydrated from the vomiting.
They kept him in overnight after taking X-rays and a second vet checked the X-ray this morning and recommended exploratory surgery to check for any blockage, although none showed on the X-ray. He was in discomfort so we agreed to the surgery.
Before they could undertake the surgery this morning, his blood pressure was down and he had a heart murmur which he had not exhibited the night before when we dropped him off.
Unfortunately, we got the call this morning that whilst trying to improve the above, his heart stopped. The vets tried to revive him but could not restart his heart once it had stopped.
The day before new year's eve he was perfectly healthy and bounding around with me in the snow so he did go downhill quickly on new year's eve. The vet feels that it was either a blockage in the colon or the colon was twisted, which shut down the blood supply and caused infection there which would have eventually ruptured and feels this is what happened this morning.
Needless to say we are all devastated. Kaiser gave us all smiles for the 6 months we had him and it was clear that had he lived he would have been an amazing part of the family. It is hard to take after Jake our Springer went missing in the summer.
Let's hope the year starts to improve from this point onwards.
