If he can play 'ride a cowboy, save a horse' he should do just fine!

That would be "Save a horse, ride a cowboy" Cool song.

No idea about the music scene in Calgary. But as there is a Goth/Metal club in little Kitchener/Waterloo, I'd be very surprised if there wasn't in Calgary.

I'm from Calgary (currently living in London but moving back with my British husband in a few months) and there is definitely a rock/metal scene. How big it is, I'm not sure, but it's definitely there. The only club I can think of is "The Back Alley", but then I haven't been into that scene for many, many years. Edmonton, a short 3-hour drive north, would also have some great rock and metal bands and music.

Welcome to my country and my city. I hope you'll love it as much as I do!!

When you get to Calgary, pick up a copy of ffwd (pronounced Fast Forward). It's a free entertainment weekly. The hard copy edition contains more information, but the online edition will give you an idea of what's going on.

Here is the Rock/Pop section. Be sure to click on the "Recurring" link to see the full line up. At the moment it's showing 21 recurring (weekly) events in the Rock/Pop section. How many of those are metal, I don't know. But, as Charliekilo said, you'll be able to find something.

In case you're interested in other information, there are ten Wiki articles about Calgary.

Hi,

I'm living in calgary, the rock/metal scene is great here, much better than back home (liverpool).

Your husband will have his hands ripped off as Bass players are in very short supply (the band i am in have been looking for one since january, hint, hint...)

There are great gigs on almost every week, and we have 3 really big ones coming up in the summer, Monsters of Rock (Ozzy), Cruefest & V-fest.

When are you due to arrive?

Dave

Hi,

No we haven't set a myspace up yet, we have only just started recording the last week or so.

My guitars seemed to be the worse for wear after the journey (went by sea in container with the rest of our stuff) so i suggest if your husband has a "valued" bass he takes it carry on (if he has flight case)

Guitars here are a lot better priced and there are a few great shops in calgary, i sold some before we came, but i wish i'd had sold all them and bought again here would have got more for my money.

Need any more info give me a shout on PM.
