Yes, that and the Beach are regular suggestions on here for nice urban neighbourhoods. High Park was historically dry but I hear there's a place that sells beer now.

High Park area is very nice. If you are looking at houses then it is pretty expensive if the property is close to the park.

If you're in the High Park area and you like curry then go to Roncenvalles Avenue and check out Shala-mar. The beef passanda is excellent and I'm not a big fan of beef curry, more of a chicken chap. Khalid the owner is a great chap and I have to say that I do miss a good curry there now we've moved out of the area.

A bit off the original topic I know, but if you're hankering after a decent curry in Oakville, Coriander Green (Church St east of Reynolds) and the Painted Elephant (on Lakeshore between George & Dunn) are both good. There's a Punjabi takeout at 3rd Line & Upper Middle that's reasonable (and does excellent Punjabi sweets).

If you're a chicken chap, try the Coriander Green Special Chicken. Mmmmmm.

Not wishing to OT with the reply, but I shall

CG has been recommended to me by a few people, but I've been to lazy to get down there. Have you had takeout from there? If so, was as good as the dine in? Obviously notwithstanding that no takeout will be as good as dine in, but I think you know what I mean.

Pretty sure I've looked at the menu outside the PE whilst wandering around, and it did look enticing.

As for the 3rd Line and Upper Middle place, I know it very well indeed, might even be phoning in an order to them tonight!

The other place I miss from TO is Everest Indian Cusine on the Lakeshore in Mimico (well, think it's classed as mimico, it's between Mimico ave and park lawn) - had regular takeout from there.

Can't beat my place in the UK (La Lipu in Southborough) was such a good customer they would send me a christmas card, plus after I left the UK in 2003 I went back in 2005 and they still recognized me and had a table for me on a busy friday night, that really impressed the OH who had come back to the UK with me.

Sorry to the OP for this little curried OT.

Have I had takeout from CG? I would refer the Hon. Gentleman to the answer I'd give if you were questioning the Pope's religious affiliations or the defecatory habits of ursine mammals!

It's well worth the trek downtown from where we are (upper middle/trafalgar) - notwithstanding your notwithstanding, IYSWIM. When I've brought leftovers in to the office for lunch the next day my colleagues (I work for an Indian company) have commented positively, which I take as a good thing!

Having established CG as our local favourite before the painted elephant opened, we've only been there a couple of times, both with friends who go there more often, both times the food and, particularly, the service have been excellent.

Evening meal's sorted for tonight, but a Punjabi curry followed by gulab jamun, ras malai or (and?) pistachio burfi for Saturday... there's a thought. My mouth is watering already.

The ferry out to centre island is worth a try.

If you like wineries, and you can venture a little further out, then you could try the Niagra area.

Hmmm curry... mmmmmmmm
(But we're vegetarian so will ignore you're chicken ponderings!!!)

Might have to check those out - thanks for the tips!!!

So excited - only a week to go!

Now, what about music shops (i.e. sell guitars and stuff, rather than CD shops). Any recommendations - I need new bass strings for a start!

Steve's Music on Queen Street for starters or you could try The Twelfth Fret on Danforth

http://www.12fret.com/

Oh yeah and another place on Queen called Songbird.

(I only know this crap as I'm married to a Guitar tech)

+1 for Steve's, was a favorite place of my oh's father when he was in town.

Long & McQuade (925 Bloor St. W.) is also meant to be pretty good, but I've never been there.
