Just another day at the office, apparently, but the cliche'd understatement (no mention on BE) is impressive.

https://globalnews.ca/news/3899146/p...sa-may-foiled/ I was stunned to see nothing about it on the guardian's front page. I did google and find there was a guardian news report - about 6 lines with "more later" - but it seems they were arrested back in November, so one could at least say it's not news now. Perhaps there was a d notice on it previously. |

A video from Los Angeles taken from an uber ride on the freeway with a massive fire on the hillside.
There is currently a late season fire burning in Los Angeles. https://twitter.com/ThatRebecca/stat...279488/video/1 https://www.facebook.com/fox5sandieg...9940/?sk=h_chr |

Multiple messages from people who haven’t read the details in the ad posted (first come first served, can’t deliver, etc etc), a lot of time wasted replying, then more time wasted waiting around for them not to turn up and fetch item(s).... Lesson learned: call local charity place, schedule pick-up, pick-up happens on schedule, job done. And watch charity sell them for silly prices (NB: good for charity).

Great if that works but even they can be a little awkward.... Her range was only about 6 months old by then but ours was only 3 or 4 years old at that point so hers remained in the garage. Recently we decided to bring hers in - it's a nice glass top thing, but otherwise similar - and use it if still working. Ours was too nice to chuck away and I didn't especially want to put in the garage where hers had been, so I decided to have a token go at selling it on kijiji. $100 seemed more than fair. Very few people looked at the listing and I had one enquiry. As is so often the case kijiji responders are not always committed. I said she could call any day any time, just email to say when it would be. "In the morning, if that's okay" she replies and great says I. The morning comes and goes. Nothing. But I now realise she may have meant it would be a morning, not necessarily today. So now I'm a bit annoyed. Weekend snow might make it hard to get it in the garage (it's using unnecessary space now), not to mention out to kerbside for a city pick up some time in the next month. And if tomorrow morning is what she means, then that's two mornings I can't go to the store for a grocery shop. So I contact Habitat Restore and offer it to them. Pick up arranged. 40 minutes later she turns up, presumably not having seen my email to say following no show that I had changed my mind and apologising if she had arranged something for a different morning. I suppose I could have sold it to her still and come up with a tale for Habitat to cancel but I'd not be comfortable with that. So I have to explain what I'd done. She was okay about it but had apparently been to Restore yesterday and seen nothing. She had a look at mine, with a view to contacting Habitat Restore after they have it and buying it there. Doubtless Restore will want around $200 judging by what I've seen there before. So she'll likely have to pay double what she could have paid and I miss out on $100. Oh well... |

Lots of livestock were killed as there wasn't time to evacuate them from the ranches.. so sad. San Diego also has a fire now as well, at least 65 homes destroyed. California fires: evacuations in San Diego County remain in place; fire conditions improve - The San Diego Union-Tribune |

ffs what a pain in the arse it is to get to/from work sometimes...
Scooter has a flat tire so left it at work, hopefully it's okay there for a couple days. Tomorrow I start at 4am and have no idea how I am getting there. Getting home is easy since there is transit, but no transit options at 3am. |

Retail and residential does not mix. After months of one of the retail units building and the noise another has decided to renovate. Oh joy. After working with a couple guys under 25 at work who are balding, I feel fortunate to have made it to almost 40 with a full head of hair, although I am sure my time is coming...lol |

Taxi. $45 with tip...
I get a "free" regular extensive eye check up (diabetes)...trouble is the clinic is so far out of town it's around $50 every time. Sometimes he wants to check something more than once a year and I can do those follow ups on his hospital day but not always. $50 last month and then again February. :frown: I could bus it, if I didn't mind changing buses twice each way and still falling 15 minutes short and waiting up to half an hour for each of four transfers in -20 temparatures. |

Sometimes taxis are a necessity. I would gladly take the bus or train if available at the hours i need.

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
$120 just to tow the scooter from the airport to our place, the quotes for a repair are $98/hr and an hour if it only needs a patch, if replacement is needed then same rate but 2 hours and $100 for the tire.
So the scooter will get to spend some time at the airport, and now gotta figure out a better solution for work. It's weird, 20 years of driving no tire issues, since January this year between the car and scooter this is the 4th tire issue, seems the streets of Vancouver are rough on tires. |

When I need a new bike tire I take the wheel off the bike to a m/cycle tire dealer and they fit the tire for free if it's purchased from them. If I source the tire from elsewhere it's generally $25 for fitting to a loose wheel. Kal Tire do free puncture repairs if you can find one equipped/willing to deal with bikes.

I am looking at the manual about removing it, not sure it's something I can do, and will need to buy tools, so no idea if all that will end up cheaper/easier, but I am trying to find a more detailed source for removing it as the manual is a bit lacking.

You claim the taxi fare on taxes of course? My ;) non "lifestyle choices" eye conditions get checked every six months but at least I can drive there. I can easily afford it now. I'm just slightly irritated at having to again so soon. This is the first time in three years that anything in between the annual appointments I've not been able to see him on a hospital day, literally five minutes walk away. |
