Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
Healthcare system seems to be falling apart.
E-Comm 911 had been blaming the delays on the paramedic shortage, but turns out their staffing issues (and funding issues) is also contributing to longer wait times. Imagine calling 9-11 because someone you know has collapsed from cardiac arrest and find your put on hold for several minutes. Seems their call takers are working high levels of over-time and burning out resulting in sick calls, which should surprise nobody. I like the system in use in some parts of the US, you call 9-11 the personal answering the phone is the only person who the caller speaks to, who has some medical training to provide guidence to the caller, and dispatches all from one spot, the system here seems to waste a lot of valuable time transffering calls. Compare the heatwave deaths in June in BC to Washington state, our system is failing badly in BC. https://bc.ctvnews.ca/not-just-a-par...-b-c-1.5651605 "A report commissioned by E-Comm by Price Waterhouse Coopers concluded that the organization cannot be successful with an understaffed system that relies so heavily on overtime and staff missing breaks or that simply abandons efforts to meet service levels. The report suggests that the current roster of 153 full-time call takers needs to increase by 125 to meet operational demands. In 2020, overtime totaled more than $2,950,000, which would have supported 35 FTEs." Probably faster at this point in some cases to just take uber to the hospital. |

Not a good day for those travelling BC Highways.

Videos of the flooding/mudslide that closed the Coquihalla. In addition parts of HIghway 1 are/were closed for the same reasons just different slides/flooding, and seems Abbotsford border might be closed due to a road being flooded blocking access.

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
Landslides always to be expected in BC during the rainy or snow season ............ too many of our highways are built through mountainous regions, with steep slopes.
Even Highway 1 through the Fraser Valley is greatly subject to mudslides, because it is through a flat delta, but there are steep slopes all along the the side away from the Fraser River. Plus, of course, all the wildfires have left slopes without any vegetation cover. |
Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
Canada losing some airline service to the US as American Airlines cuts routes permanently.
Ottawa is gone completely. (only 1 US carrier serving Ottawa now, Air Canada partner United.) Montreal and Toronto to NY-JFK gone Calgary and Vancouver to Phoenix gone. Cuts are effective April 2022 but some of these routes have been suspended since 2020 for pandemic reasons. |

Sucks for this condo complex, their underground parking flooded. Building somewhere in Langley.

If there was 1 talent that I could have, I think having a voice capable of doing voice overs would be it, seems like a fun and interesting job.

This shall be interesting, to get into bank account requires 2 factor via text, to pay cell phone bill requires access to bank account, can't receive text because phone isn't active due to payment being due today but no income until tomorrow.
Oh and the nearest branch isn't accessible, hopefully the phone people will help. |

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
Looks like I shall be renting a car and driving to visit my parents in February if I go, I missed a trip in 2020 for obvious reason and 2021 for same obvious reason, but I am so not paying $927 round trip to fly, and that is just one person, so over $1,800 for 2 people round trip.
For comparison, in February 2019 on the same dates $180 roundtrip. There is of course now virtually no competition on US bound flights because of all the cut backs and fares have increased drastically because of the lack of competition. Alaska is a little better at $280 round trip but requires 12 hours of travel and 3 connections. |

Connection times aside, could you get your parents to move to Alaska and save more than $600? ;)
Silly goose Alaska in my terms = Alaska Airlines ;) My dad and step mom have considered the idea of moving to Alaska, but I don't know if they ever would.......but if they lived in the tail of Alaska there are ferry options... If I were independently wealthy, I always liked Stewart, BC, next to Hyder Alaska, both look like rather interesting although remote places. Cheaper houses too, although very little for sale. https://www.realtor.ca/real-estate/2...way-st-stewart |
