Sometimes shopping on Amazon is frustrating, item literally went up $7 in the time of my initial search and putting it in my cart. Damn dynamic pricing.

Damn you. I just looked to see how much it was now. Of course, now I shall get "based on your search you may be interested in this soldering iron"

Got to give it to companies for creativity.
Often products have the designed in X country then lower down in smaller print Made in China. Bought something on Amazon and on the box in color and fairly large print is a US flag followed by A Proud American Manufacturer. After that visit our website and a QR code, then their address and legal stuff. Then at the very bottom in small print Made in China. |

Most of my Levi's jeans belts - bought separately from the jeans - have Made in China stamped on the inside.
My jeans are all Denver Hayes brand, Made in Vietnam. I don't have much clothing made in China, a lot made in Vietnam though and a bunch of shirts made in Jordan. When I was working I looked into buying local made work boots, but they were crazy costly so I didn't buy any, Buying local for clothing/shoes and other goods can be hard when the prices are so high. https://www.daytonboots.com/collections/csa-workboots |

Avoiding people named Fredericton’s official pastime
Fredericton — The capital city is updating its tourism materials to include Fredericton’s biggest claim to fame: being the best, hands down, at avoiding people.“If there’s someone we’d rather not talk to, there’s literally no one more skilled than a Fredericton native at ensuring that a conversation — or even a nod of acknowledgment — does not occur,†said Tourism official Beth Healy.... ... Healy said Fredericton is special in this regard for a few reasons. “It’s not a proper small town, where it would be actually impossible to avoid acquaintances. But, it’s not a big city, either, so it takes some skill and practice to manage any kind of anonymity. Necessity is the mother of invention, after all. People say we’re snooty or cold, but really, we just have a talent that goes unappreciated.†City of Moncton to remove all sidewalks because they’re pointless Moncton — Mayor Dawn Arnold announced today that work will commence in the spring to remove Moncton’s many sidewalks.“We already have no usable sidewalks for six months of the year. But even in the warm months they’re uneven, they slant or drop at every driveway…they’re awful,†she explained.... ...“We’re frustrated,†said driver Joe Bloe. “In the winter, no one uses the sidewalks we work so hard to keep open. We rattle our brains out bumping along in those little machines clearing the snow and spreading sand, but still people prefer walking in the road.â€â€œMais oui!†observed 80-year-old Joanne Dupuis, towing her groceries in a little two-wheeled cart along Elmwood Drive. “After some traffic and salt, and a nice sunny day or two, the road is down to the bare pavement, so I can actually walk!... ... “We did the math,†said Mayor Arnold. “Removing the sidewalks and widening the streets will give people a better place to walk, and actually save the city money in the long run. Sure, there might be a slight increase in deaths from vehicle-pedestrian collisions, but way fewer injuries from falls and sprains. |

I think it's a losing battle here. Motorist is king. We do have buses with racks on the front which is encouraging. |

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
I ordered something on Amazon and they sent the wrong item so I sent it back and they issued a refund.
Total refund $14.53 Instead of issuing 1 refund for $14.53 they issued 2 refunds, one for $6.72 & $7.81 I wonder what the purpose of issuing the refund like this is, it was an item sold and shipped by Amazon so not 3rd party. |

Sometimes Amazon are too bloody efficient. I ordered two items this morning one of which had two versions; one @ $20 more and with more bells and whistles than the other but the cheaper was good enough. 40 minutes later I discovered that in the new Best Buy flyer from tomorrow, the more bells and whistles one was the same price there as the basic version on Amazon. I double checked price comparisons including delivery and it was free with bestbuy. So less than an hour after ordering I went back onto amazon to cancel that part of the order - at the same cost I may as well have the bells and whistles - but the processing was too far gone to cancel. :( |
Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
Efficient they are.
I wouldn't want to work for them in their fulfillment centers but they are efficient most of the time. My last job at the airport we had a bunch of people who worked at one of the fulfillment centers here, the stories they all told made those centers sound like brutal places to work. I try not to return things to Amazon whenever possible, they have been known to cancel accounts if they decide you return items too often, but how much is too much seems anyone's guess.

Two guesses. One for the item and one for delivery or, more likely, a refund for the incorrect item but then they realised you'd paid more and there was a second one for the difference?

Fulfillment Center sounds disturbingly Orwellian.
