I am constantly reading stuff in regards to things I enjoy. Being at home alone for hours on end, doesn't matter what one does, eventually you still end up bored, or lonely.

I don't care for huge social gatherings with people I don't know, but I do like smaller gatherings with people sometimes, we never get invited to anything however, even when the rest of the family does.

I don't have my friends or family here, so everyone I know is through my wife.

I guess its more of being lonely.

I also just don't like living here and I think that plays a huge part of how I feel, and while I am never exactly perky and happy, at least when I am living in the US, I have access to familiar things, things I like and enjoy doing.


I think it part is simply missing my old job...lol... They got a new contract so will almost double in size soon.

Nature is grand.

Primary filtration method of an aquarium is biological in nature.

Fish like other animals pee and poop along with uneaten food and other waste build up and produce ammonia which ia highly toxic to fish and other aquatic animals.

This is where nature comes in.

Nitrifying bacteria break down ammonia which in turn increases Nitrite which is mostly non toxic to marine fish and while less toxic to freshwater fish is still toxic to them. Luckily these bacteria keep on working and nitrite is then converted to Nitrate which at lower levels found in aquariums is laregly harmless to fish but above 10ppm can be harmful to invertebrates like shrimp, clams, anemones and fuels algae.

In nature the nitrate is further broken down by Anaerobic bacteria but this step is difficult to impossible in the home aquarium so the primary way to remove Nitrate is via partial water change of 15 to 25% each week.

Once an aquarium is up and running and cycled unless moving it or getting rid of it there is no reason to do full water change in a healthy working aquarium eco system.

The legality of some of the flying might be questionable as some of the footage is pretty close to the approach path into the airport, but nice video.

It was my MIL's 80th birthday last weekend. She's a soccer nut. We took her to the Montreal/New York game. The two lagered-up young guys sitting in front of her apologised in advance that they might swear a bit. She didn't care. The three of them were high-fiving each time Montreal scored. Are little old ladies meant to high-five?

:thumbsup: Yes, little old ladies are meant to high-five, in fact I think it should be mandatory! My 85 year old mum goes to the gym 3 times a week, walks her dog, tends her garden and cooks huge feasts for her family every Sunday.
Since my step-dad died 2 years ago, she's had to fend off 3 men who live in her neighbourhood! My daughter remarked on this last Sunday 'It's not fair Nanna, you get more action than I do' :lol:

Your MIL sounds wonderful and I hope she has many more healthy years to enjoy.

Yes very nice video and USD looks great! Music sounds like Two Door Cinema Club, but not sure, anyway it fits. Drone guy should have credited the music since he went to the trouble of including himself in the last scene and credits.

Probably not a good habit to get into. There was an article in the UK media recently on loneliness, can't recall which, and there are many people with absolutely nobody to talk to. Even if the small talk is boring or you enjoy your own company, in the long run it may be better to take advantage of social opportunities while they are available, because the risk is that one day there's not even a boring opportunity to join.

This is all very true. Thank goodness for social media which keeps many of us linked. I know I'm always banging on about deafness ans hearing loss but it affects many. Even after I got some hearing back I never got back into being able to chat easily nr of calling people on the phone for a gossip. As hearing loss increases with old age there will be many who are suffering isolation.

So true. I spend about 40-50 hours a week at the moment alone, well me and the dog, but she can't talk and she sleeps most of the day, so its mostly just me and the internet, but modern internet there is not much chatting like the old days (thinking late 90's early 2000's) so its mostly just forums and reading, but most forums see low traffic so not much activity these days compared to the past, some of the forums I go to are now down to 1-2 new posts a week if lucky, and then its only the buy and sell sections that really have any activity.

With my wife working and taking a course (she got into a free mental health support worker program via a mental health non-profit) I spend a lot of time alone which is about the worst thing for someone with mental health problem, but I am not good at meeting people and making friends, never have been, being lonely has always been a major problem for me.
