Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
I find it so odd in Canada people will simply walk out into the road, often times not even looking to see if there are cars.
I didn't notice such behavior anywhere along the western US coast while there either, almost all crosswalks were controlled as well, where in BC at least they will put a cross walk randomly in a busy road, which makes no sense to me, 4 lane roads with heavy traffic should not have random uncontrolled cross walks. Pedestrians in BC always forget about this part of the law as well. "A pedestrian must not leave a curb or other place of safety and walk or run into the path of a vehicle that is so close it is impracticable for the driver to yield the right of way."

In the movies, trucks - it's only ever big rigs - will frequently plough into other vehicles or people at top speed with a blast of the horn as if it's up to the driver or person to just get out of the way. I understand if it's a last minute jump in its path that it can't take evasive action, brake etc - although if it's that instant the driver probably can't sound the horn that quickly either. But quite often it's not last minute - a person may be standing in the road or a car may be overtaking another or the driver has simply lost concentration and is on the wrong side of the road. Whatever it is, the rig driver should have ample to time to react earlier - even if it's only sounding the horn earlier. Of course, it's a brilliant and dramatic effect for the viewer to be taken by surprise by the sudden horn blast as the truck kills the person or destroys the car. Is this simply a movie thing or does it happen in real life too. |

Anyone else ever have a bill to pay, want to pay by credit card but waiting for the statement day to pass so it needn't be paid for until another month but the statement still isn't done yet as if it's waiting for you to pay so it gets included immediately? :frown:
Most have been dated 10th or 11th, with some earlier. We're now the 12th and still not done. :( |

:( Just made a small purchase, then I carefully placed the receipt in my wallet and crumpled up and threw a 5 Euro note into the bin.

I pay all my bills as they fall due. The amount I could make by deferring a payment by a few days wouldn't be worth the effort involved.
If I paid the water bill now and it gets included on the statement I'd get charged the interest on the full amount unless I cleared it immediately. That would cost me at least $30. Or I can wait a couple of days, clear the balance in full and then clear next month's in full as usual. No late payments and no needless $30 in interest. It's no more effort, the emails alert me to the statement being ready. |

I pay by the due date but it's not about making money, just delaying the bill payment by a few days so that I can clear a higher than usual credit card bill in full.

That aside, the mention of a late payment was for the water bill, not the credit card. That's never late. But if you have an expense that you don't normally have and you're not wealthy enough to pay it instantly (or you don't want to withdraw from other savings) and by delaying the payment of that expense by a couple of days, but still paying it well within due time, you can continue to pay off a card in full without incurring interest, why would you not do it? It was only supposed to be a light hearted Murphy's Law thing. |

I suppose with the 10th or 11th being a weekend this month, those days don't count for banking, so today being not a federal holiday, I would say today would be your statement date, so maybe updated for tomorrow?
It normally doesn't matter. It's just not every month one gets dental bills of over $1000 :( |

One of the advantages of a credit card is the free interest period. You're not getting it;)
