This man came from a town my sons played rugby in for 7 years, and my eldest went to Academy (Scottish secondary school) in for a year, before we came to Canada, and I am ashamed to say I have never heard of him. The hero rescuer who was swept to his death - BBC News

Not sure how I got there but I was looking at a Melbourne v Sidney thread on the Aussie forum.
I couldn't help laughing at the "biting cold" (as someone called it) of Melbourne with its coldest month of the year temperatures of 10c.

Having said that, the minute the temp in the UK threatens to dip below 0C the newscasts are filled with forboding talk of arctic temperatures and the North Pole.

I noticed the Superstore flyer delivered Wednesday has a 4 day special on a few items. Nothing unusual there as it's veru common.
But the items in this special section were Ham Portions, Por Ribs, basic Pizza, fancy store made pizza, Chicken Wings and a Sushi selection.
This is the kind of thing they do for Superbowl weekend or maybe one of the other holidays. But there is no holiday this weekend.
There is American Thanksgiving today, with Canada already having had theirs. But that can't be it can it?
I just had a thought. I believe it may be Santa Parade this weekend. Can it be that people hold a Santa Party after his arrival and I've never noticed it before?

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
Looking at my pay stub and being remembrance day was the first holiday I have worked this year (others fell on normal days off.) so I was paid the higher holiday pay rate, but that then increased gov't deductions by 232 basically erasing the 266 gain from the holiday pay.
Seems one would be better of just trying to get the day off if they can and not work...

The Sun and the Daily Fail report on that and honestly it makes the people living in the UK look like a bunch of mollycoddled people. The headlines talk about -10 c temperatures which when you read in more detail will only impact the peak of Ben Davis. Clickbait articles at its worst. Print media is in serious decline.

It's been a long time since I saw a print version of the guardian but the website does exactly the same thing with "the north" or Britain in references to extreme temperatures/snowfall etc and it turns out to be just a few places or Scotland only...
