I understand how thirty bucks a week might be a tempting way to buy - I don't really, I'm just being diplomatic because I'd move heaven and earth to avoid spending an outrageous amount unnecessarily - but the real issue is the cash price.

BestBuy currently advertises two equivalent for $999.99.

Amazon.ca is doing it - same make, same model for $778 and free shipping. Identical specs except 4gb RAM instead of 8. But $32 will put that right.
That's a lot like these part work magazines, Build your own xxxx. only 99p for the first one, what thy don't say is that the other 69 parts are £7.99 each, so your model xxxx will cost you around £550 to build, if you keep buying, could buy a hell of a lot of models for that price.

The latest toy just came in, this should be fun! My friend the techno-wizard who recommended it says it's remarkable that they can build this for $46 Cdn.

Wholesale – Buy China Wholesale Products on DHgate.com
When there's an offer that seems too good to be true on electronics on dhgate it's often shoddy knock-offs, as a rule I get electronics from Ali Express, glassware from dhgate, some other stuff from Amazon and the rest from ebay. It isn't hard to cross-check 4 different stores, but you have to know what to look out for in order not to buy useless merchandise.

I gave a seller a bad review and I was plagued by emails from them pleading to change the review because they'd be in trouble with their boss. Real emotional blackmail.

Due to non arrival of another order I made a claim for refund and the seller kept saying it takes more time.

They appeared to have a list of English expressions and they just picked one as a response no matter how little sense it made.

what payment method are folks on here using for purchases from Aliexpress for the reason of concern about a hack or wiping a credit card or bank account out?

Like anything else, whatever suits budgeting-wise at the time.

I don't think the site itself is any more dodgy or unsafe than amazon. I'd certainly rather use it than ebay.

When I started using ebay I didn't have a credit card so opened a dummy bank account to funnel cash into my ebay account. I still do ebay that way, even though there is a 10 day delay in account deposits. Getting your money out if you want it is instant.

It's Paypal I dislike more than ebay really. But a few weeks ago I ordered 2 things on ebay via 2 different sellers. If genuine, it was a bargain. If not genuine, my money was at least protected.

Very quickly I got an email from ebay saying it wasn't genuine, not to enter into any communication with the seller and the listing had been removed, no monies taken. I found another seller for the same item, similar price so I ordered that as a replacement.

Then very quickly the same email, same listing removal for the other of the original two.

Much later - the following day I got the same thing for the replacement. Except monies had already been paid. And the email said if money had been taken to wait for the order to arrive. What order? They just told me it wasn't genuine.

I got the money back, of course, but it wasn't easy. By removing the listing they had effectively removed a record of it. Try registering a dispute for something that doesn't exist.

The only way I was able to do something about it was to record the item as not having been received - about 16 hours after I'd ordered it.

Lesson learned.

Credit card. Most if not all credit cards have fraud protection.

Sometimes also a pre paid card that is one time use.

Thank goodness for bank holiday weekends and sunny evenings as it means my bar is completely devoid smelly hipsters, in fact there's almost no one in here

"Sea lion drags girl into water off Steveston dock in Richmond, B.C."

She wasn't hurt, but the video shows how quick a sea lion can pull a child into the water.
