The adverts are supposed to be localised, so for local events and deals at local shops based on your address as well as type of books based on your reading habits.
So is it good thing or not? (please).

Bugger if I know in Canada.

I don't have one either, but from what I've seen on a mates down here, it's fine.

When you power up, instead of automatically going to the book library, there's a advert for a local product, but mostly some upcoming book release. It pops up as a screen saver if you leave don't turn a page or anything for quite a while and sometimes you get a partial screen advert when scrolling through a word search or contents page.

I don't think it's intrusive enough to be worried about and just put the money you've saved on the thing into a nice case or a stack of books, or whatever else.

I heard the same from someone who has one - basically ad is screen saver and the opening page - don't have one myself though I am hoping that I may have in a week or so.

That's a really good idea - obviously if I get one for Christmas I shouldn't be worried but if I buy one myself, I'll need to stretch the pennies.
