Does anyone know if Quark is sold in any of the supermarkets or maybe a more specialist health food store in the Ottawa area? In advance, thank you.

Although common in Europe, manufacturing of quark is rare in the Americas. A few dairies manufacture it, such as the Vermont Creamery in Vermont,[29] and some specialty retailers carry it.[30][31][32] Lifeway Foods manufactures a product under the title "farmer cheese" which is available in a variety of metropolitan locations with former Russian populations. Elli Quark, a Californian manufacturer of quark, offers soft quark in different flavors.[33] In Canada, the firmer East European variety of quark is manufactured by Liberté Natural Foods; a softer German-style quark is manufactured in the Didsbury, Alberta, plant of Calgary-based Foothills Creamery. Glengarry Fine Cheesemaking in Lancaster (Eastern Ontario) also produces Quark. Also available in Canada is the very similar Dry Curd Cottage Cheese manufactured by Dairlyland. Quark may also be available as "baking cheese", "pressed cottage cheese", or "fromage frais".[34]

I used to be able to get it at Superstore in Red Deer, but it disappeared a few years ago. Bigger more populated areas might have it.

I've never even heard of Quark until now! Does it taste better than cottage cheese (which is made from the devil's armpits)? Might have to go find some.

It's not really the same in that Quark has a spreadable consistency, more like a very smooth cream cheese, but much lower in fat. I use it instead of butter and to thicken sauces such as curry and pasta.

Blimey, a Quark Guru! Thanks, if I can't find something very similar or even the same as I am used to in all of those options then it really doesn't exist

To be honest, if you don't like cottage cheese, you probably won't like Quark, sorry ..

Creme Fraiche? I don't know if you get that over there but it sounds along the same lines.
