Keep a note of your regifts though - it's bad when a few years later your M-I-L asks how you got on with the rice cooker she gave you, and neither you nor her son have any recollection of it because you wrapped it straight back up and gave it away to someone else...

Oh shit. We gave rice cookers to SIL and SIL2 a couple of years ago.

I think we'll get away with the raclette machine I (mistakenly) bought for Souvette back in Feb. It's still in the box and her mother is unaware of its existence. For now.

Had your bikini wax yet?

Not that old chestnut

Low salaries in comparison to what? Please show me which profession/trade whatever, that expects its members to have a comparable education, that, when time at work is taken into account, are paid significantly more than teachers

I work in a bank and for all of the last week we have boxes, tins, packets, bags you name it of mostly chocolate (not complaining!) biscuits and what have you. I suspect by xmas I will never want to see candy again and could imagine this being the same for a teacher with 25 or so pupils all with similar budjets and not a clue what to get.

I too would settle for a decent wine!!!!!

Yep thats what we do as well. The kids make a card for the teacher and we give them a timmies voucher because both teachers love timmies coffee.

Do teachers have to have two degrees in Canada?

I don't know of any lawyers that get the vacation allowance of teachers, nor do I know of any that only work the hours referred to above

Normally not, but if they want decent bucks, then a Masters is recommended.

Lawyers are mostly on vacation, I understand: but of course they're billing for the hours.
