Re: Potential new pup
Kaiser is a good name, our GSD (sadly not with us now) was named Kaiser.
Must admit it was embarrassing when I called the dog one day when our daughters hubby, then boyfriend came to visit. I didn't know his surname was Kaiser

I had a friend who had a big black lab cross named Joe Who. While on his way to Whitecourt Ab he stopped for lunch at the gas station in High River. Through the window, he saw that Joe had jumped out the truck window and was peeing on cars in the parking lot. He banged on the glass and shouted "Joe, get in the truck,, Joe Who, get back!" Realizing that everything had gone really quiet, (the babble of after-church diners stopped), he turned around and saw Joe Clark standing across the room staring at him, along with everyone else.

I like Max & Mach myself but all the names you've selected are good ones.

Footballers have a tendency to give each other nicknames ending in -y or -ie, which I find quite infantile; that they feel a need to connect their buddies with the innocent closeness that "mummy", "daddy" and "baby" imply.
I think there's a strong temptation to name a puppy with a name like Buddy, not just because it's a common or apt name for a baby dog, but also as this type of name maps directly into the family name set that includes mummy, daddy, baby, puppy etc.
But will it still suit that "puppy name" when it's older?
(BTW, what about "Hamman"? )

We had a 'stray' cat live with us when I was in the Falklands, it was called 'Schlarf' as it slept most of the time.
A friend use to have a dog called 'Schnaps' and another had one called 'Pivo' (Beer in Croat).....

I like Max.
My concern about Kruger is that Canadians will likely associate it with the lead singer of Nickelback (Chad Kroeger)!

Chester and Mack have been discounted. It seems to be Kaiser, Max and Kruger in that order so far.
My original suggestions of Buck and Fritz were quickly shat upon.

Every other dog around here seems to be called Max!
We have a 1yr old GSD, when we started training her we heard that 2 syllable names were easiest for the dogs to learn.

Final decision was made and the little fella will be Kaiser. He doesn't look like one now but I'm sure he will when he hits 130lbs.

Good choice
He is a beautiful puppy and will be an even more handsome adult dog.
