Re: Post The Latest Picture You Have Taken
My daughter participated in a show jumping event at the weekend. Prior to this, the highest she had ever jumped on a horse was 3 feet. At the end of the competition they had a high jump type of event. The height started at 2 feet and was raised until only one had cleared. A bit like a high jump event in athletics.
Amazingly, she won. They refused to inform the participants of the height for fear that they would not want to jump if they knew how high it was. We believe the height was somewhere over 4 feet but we honestly don't know.
The first was her highest jump. The second is to give the height some perspective. To say she was very pleased is the understatement of the year.

She cleared that one, the other person left in at that time didn't, so we have no idea what the full potential of the horse is.
This happened on Saturday and she is still smiling now. This event also taught her that it is all about the horse; something that we have been trying to explain to her for some time.

On my walk I noticed how the grapes are coming along in the big beautiful vinyard across the road, and beside it the rogue plant shooting up the anchor for the power pole manages some sparse fruit.

Well done to both the Misses AC. My daughter has taken to horseback for the first time this week at a riding school day-camp. I'm very worried that it may lead to this sort of behaviour. Principally because horses make me sneeze, which tends in turn to alarm them, to the detriment of the enjoyment of the rider

It seems to be every girl's dream to want to ride horses. Initially, I hoped that it would last a week or two. It didn't.
I have no interest in horses at all and, as you will likely find out, they require lots of time and $$$.
We stated that they could only obtain their own horses if they cared for them. At the time, they were aged 7 and 10. Remarkably, both did as much as they could, and this increased as they grew. It has undoubtedly taught them all about responsibility.
They started steady and have progressed quite well. The youngest only had 3 lessons where she jumped prior to the show. In fact when she started she found riding English too pretentious so she chose to ride Western. She only changed to riding English a month ago. This required the purchase of a different set of tack, a new saddle and riding gear ...
Best of luck

If you go down in the woods today, you're sure of a big surprise...
The Calgary Zoo re-opens to the public today. Special previews Monday and yesterday for pass holders. Due to the flood damage only about 20-25% is open.
