Like the name but what woman would want to prance around in expensively embroidered dresses and capes made of finest silk and satin, wear fabulous priceless jewels, live in the utmost luxury surrounded by exquisite art works? The staff of kowtowing flunkies would be tiresome as would issuing edicts affecting the lives of millions. Plus you have to work Sundays and Christmas.

Or just say you do...I suspect most people who give a religion when asked don't really believe it, they just don't want to make a fuss or hurt anyone's feelings.

Most people don't stop to think about it deeply enough to know whether they believe or not. Add to that the people who might have doubts but don't want to make a fuss and the number of people who claim to be religious is definitely overstated.

Believe it or not, there are people out there that do believe though. Doesn't mean that they agree with everything the church says or does.

I puked at my confirmation and never went back except for weddings and funerals, and these days not enough weddings. I'd been sent home from confirmation classes for hitting another boy in the back of the head with my bible, (he got a nosebleed and his dad was a church elder and was right in front of us teaching the class), but my parents made me go back and finish the course. I suppose that makes me United Church!

Actually I don't have an issue at all (and nor should I) with anyones beliefs in a god/some gods/lots of gods/spaghetti noodle monsters, its the whole thing around organised religion which starts turning things downside up.

I can imagine the staunch older generation Catholics having minor heart attacks when their 'top' man - the chosen man as goods representative on earth, resigned

"But.... but you are the chosen one, The Lord himself chose you "

"Yeah well i've decided to be unchoosed"
