Don't they have dedicated Medlab type clinics in the USA and Canada then for people needing a blood test but who are not in hospital?
Both countries do, the one near me is in a strip mall next to a Tim Horton's and a bank of some sort.

Life Labs is their name in my area.

Yes...also in the hospital with all the other out patient clinics but other places do it too. Free too.

Some people choose to go to pharmacies that may also do it, for a fee, because the fee may be cheaper than hospital parking

Are lab results available online across Canada or is it an ON/BC thing?

Oh and to add to Bristols comment on hospital parking, some hospitals have some crazy high parking rates.

I've had so many blood tests this year (Colon Tumor removal) that I suspect it's being sold on the blood market....surely they don't need all that blood for testing.
Also, as a slightly squeamish old fart, I have observed that young nurses, with boobs, cause less pain than males....

No charge as it comes within what you pay to your Med Centre . All trained phlebotomists.
There is a private phlebotomist in town who,for a fairly large fee will come to typically immobile patients. I might be wrong but I think that the local labs have on occasion gone to homes to take blood for no fee although this isn't frequent. In the UK, district nurses would often take blood on home visits, I'm not sure if they still do.

I suppose so but my GP's place has people who take blood, as do the multi clinic buildings.

I think younger people are a bit more careful when taking blood. The older ones tend to have seen it all, and suffer wimps less gladly. There are exceptions, of course, and experience does count, but in general I find it's better to go with youth. And, err...

We will have to put any move on hold for now. Have to wait and see what happens with healthcare there.

Since all the disgruntled Americans have crashed the CIC website () perhaps both of you can arrange an exchange with a couple there and you get to keep their jobs and health benefits.

For someone with significant gaps of employment caused mostly by psychiatric health issues, any idea's how to explain those gaps and long stretches of not working without going into details about the mental health stuff?

I think those gaps (longest job in the last decade only being 8 months or so) along with having not worked since July 2015, really make a significant impact as to why I don't get interviews.

I don't feel comfortable going into details about mental health with employers or perspective employers.

I just am not sure how to go about explaining the gaps, short job length.
