I have to say that Calgary is the only place I have beem to in Canada that I did not feel safe. We were waiting outside our hotel for the bus to the airport and the same 3 scum like trams kept walking past checking us out.
Then they split and two stood at the corners watching while the third started walking our way fast. I was just about to go back inside the hoyel when the bus turned up and he turned around the other way. Not a nice feeling.

More likely he was gonna offer you drugs or girls than violence

I try to avoid going to Calgary, but it is necessary from time to time. I don't get the impression it is any more dangerous than your average UK town though.
