Currently we have a system where credit is easy to come by because those giving it are not punished for giving it out to people that obviously have no means of paying it back. The government has screwed this up by getting involved (as they always do) - they've bailed out the creditors and the debtors at the expense of the prudent. The only people that deserve justice are ordinary savers with no debt; these people are being stolen from every day because of this mess.
OK, I am going to leave this here as it is evident that you have a real issue with the banks. As I said earlier, I am thinking more about businesses and I doubt that very many of the posters on here would have half of monetary value of the possessions they own with access to credit, whether it be a loan, mortgage, credit card, store card, etc.

No you misunderstand - I don't have an issue with banks. I have an issue with the legislative framework they operate in; I have an issue with debt / credit and money creation and people not understanding it. I have an issue with anti free market protectionism. Still, again we aren't going to agree so happy to leave it.

All other ways of striking (job walk-outs etc) are not allowed due to the fact the Labour Relations Board has told them they are essential services, thus it is left being a non-strike in many ways.

The paramedics working right now are being forced to work overtime to cover extra shift gaps, they must answer all calls from BC Ambulance so none of that "my phone was charging' malarky...

I just wanted to say something as I, along with my classmates and around 250+ across the province of BC are left in limbo while we wait. I can't gain work in the field I invested so much time, money and stress into. I am going to have to work in the lower (the lowest in Canada I believe) wage bracket again until I can find something better.

Are there any BC paramedics out there who would like to comment?

If anyone in BC happens to get a chance to meet with any ministers or sees anyone who is in government or the union maybe you can shout 'get an arbitraitor!' as currently, both sides have none and therefore the strike/non-strike goes on and on as both sides will not talk!

If anyone is on Facebook, please join the group 'save our paramedics' or at leat read some of the posts on there as it is really not in the spotlight at all. There is also a website at www.saveourparamedics.com which (if you have the time) is worth a read as it explains why they are striking.

Thanks expats.
What's happened with the paramedic strike in BC? I'm a UK paramedic and will hopefully be relocating to BC by the end of this year. Are working conditions really bad over there? Is there full time work for ACPs?

Would really appreciate any info as it will help me prepare for what's coming my way!!

Yetti,

I have a UK para from surrey in my ALS class in BC. He has had nothing but a nightmare attempting to get BC to recognise any UK licensure. He is still waiting and its been 2 years as of now. I can pass on your email to him if you'd like and to discuss things with him.

No, working conditions in BC aren't as bad as one may think. Sure they suck at times but they can suck anywhere. Attitude is key as is work ethic. I've seen much worse and have also seen better yetti. From what I've been told its the same bitches and concerns as anywhere else. Pay is pretty good actually. I can email you more info on BCAS if you want.
May be big changes coming for BCAS; the government wants to chop it into pieces and possibly give it to the health authorities instead of keeping it one provincial service.... Not good in my eyes but I'm also not a scum eating politician either

It's true I think that no matter where you work there are always politics that seem to get in the way of doing your job.

I would appreciate any info you can give me as it all helps and your mate's email address from Surrey would be great as I was given the impression from the guys at the licensing place that getting my qualifications transferred would be an easy enough process.

Thanks alot for your help

Yetti
