Default Office Pet Hate - Imaginary 'Flu

Morning!

I have a pet hate, and it's occuring in our office at the moment.

Someone was off yesterday, and called in with Flu! Said they had the sniffles and would stay in bed, but would be in in the morning.

Exactly that - in the morning (today) has arrived into work, coughing and feeling sorry for herself - playing matyre (sp) ....

Now - If you have Flu, you are struck down for longer than a day, and frankly you can't actually, physically get out of bed, regardless if you are bored, whcih apparently is one of the reasons she didn't want to stay @ home..!!!

It's my pet hate, and I have no sympathy for her at all - and frankly if she wants to 'play' sick, try at least and do it better!

GGGRRRRR

sorry to rant but it's just so unnecessary! Get over your self - if your boyfriend is p*ssing you off - then deal with that - and if you ARE that sick - stay @ home as I certainly don't want real Flu !!!

Cant agree more! Along with the general standard of Canadian driving this is up there on my list as well. Thankfully most of us will only ever get real flu once or twice in our lives. Anything for a day off!!

Actually I have work colleagues who tell you the day before that they are going to be off with the 'Flu'.

Must be that 'psychic prescience flu' then?

Hubby and I have both had really bad colds this year, I stayed at home the one day I physically COULDN'T get out of bed (standing up in the morning I almost blacked out, and was dizzy all day), but I can work from home so I didn't call in sick - just took the laptop to bed with me, and he came home early one day. We both work for the same company, and all we heard from everyone around us was to go home and rest up. One of the consultants at work is a GP, so he ran flu shot clinics, which I dutifully showed up for.

This damn cold is a nasty one though - majorly sore throat for about 10 days, a month on for OH and 3 weeks on for me and we're still having effects of it (fevers, chills, sinus problems, etc.)!

Well what do you know - the colleague with 'prescient flu' phoned in sick today.

He's used up all his sick leave and is now being allowed to take annual leave...from next year??? WTF? :curse:

I don't know what's more annoying: the blatant lead swinging or the laissez faire attitude from the management.

If it bothers you that much, why not do the same yourself?

Why not? Think of all the fun stuff you could do rather than slaving away at home?

I suppose I was brought up with a work ethic that prevents me from taking 'sickies' when I'm not actually sick. Plus I always feel that I may need those days for when I genuinely am ill.

The fact that they are off doesn't bother me more than the fact that I need to cover the slacking b**tards work.

I have noticed in my years here that they call all common colds "the flu" here. If any of them actually got the real flu they'd know it, it'd knock them for six and they probably wouldn't have the strength to pick up the phone and call in sick. If you're unlucky enough, you may get it once or twice in a lifetime (twice here, never to be forgotten!!).

Having said that, I'd rather they stayed home with their coughs and colds, too, rather than spreading the germs around the workplace.

if you have a cold you go to the doctor
if you have a flu the doctor comes to you.

that's the rule. Influenza is a nasty evil bug.The common cold is rather less nasty and evil and a totally different type. I'm sneezing away here and pretty certain its a cold...but that doesnt' sound as impressive on teh phone, now does it?

That rule does not work in Canada.

The doctor just isn't coming period, flu or no flu, they don't do house calls.

Well I never knew that - mental note to self don't get poorly enough to not be able to get to the docs!
