Should be prosecuted under the trades description act, for calling the strips of fat they sell here bacon.

It's just streaky isn't it? Granted a third, or even half, is just fat. (although Maple Leaf seems less fatty)
My local butcher/grocer/general store sells sliced cooked back bacon - just the meat part. The price used to put me off, but given the total absence of fat and no shrinkage it works out about the same cost as the usual stuff.
A couple of pieces in the microwave for 40 seconds and you have tasty lean "grilled" back bacon ready for a sarnie.
It's delicious eaten cold too.

Only last week I found a butchers that sells good bacon. Made in Belleville apparently. Costs less than supermarket bacon and with less fat.
Last time I went back home I didn't like the bacon.

Ive no problem with the streaky stuff if cooked properly, but then Ive no qualms about smothering things in maple syrup either.
But if there is real bacon on my doorstep I should check it out.
Ill be in the great metropolis of Campellford this Saturday anyway, so will have to go to Doohers anyway.

Doohers donuts.... theres no cure Im afraid. I hear good things about the butter tart place, but Im afraid I might like them too much!
Sadly I seldom go to Cobourg, I dont suppose you happen to know where in Belleville this mythic bacon is made?

Next, you're going to tell me you can only get white bread.

Maybe you will like Peameal "Canadian" Bacon anyway... Not all bacon here is streaky, thats just the default, Rashers of UK style back bacon are hard to find though.
I wont pretend that there isnt some terrible cheese out there, but there are also some good local cheddars that dont cost a fortune.

OFFS. What about sourdough? Can you get good bread flour for baking, at least?
