So that article says 10sq meters and google says that is 107sq feet.

So tiny and so costly.

That is even smaller then our average North America hotel room and living in a hotel is bad enough.

500 to 600sq feet is about the smallest I feel comfortable in.

Space is essential to healthy living in my view.

Even those tiny homes are usually bigger.

1,100 pounds to CAD google says is a bit over 2,000 dollars. You can if your income provides it, find decent apartments in Vancouver for that amount.

Now 24k a year on housing, I could not imagine...lol

My London-dwelling sister used to rent out a room in her abode (in a much more desirable location than the one cited in the Grauniad article) for £ 1500/month... It was considered cheap for the location & amenities. Little brother lives in Bethnal Green & probable pays just slightly less than that for a shared house.

I wish there were more housing projects/opportunities like this one:

40 Oaks - The Building | TCRC

When my daughter emigrated to Tower Hamlets, a few years ago, she and her partner rented a very small one bedroom flat for £500 a week. It was noisy because the Olympic bus boat boarded under their balcony. I was rather jealous of that location.

More social housing is certainly needed. Its not something that seems to be done well at least in this part of Canada. Social housing is severely lacking and people end up in questionable housing especially the disabled.

The housing supplement given to a single person who is disabled is 375 and even a slum lord run down unsafe SRO in Vancouver will run 450 to 600 a month.

Then of course many communities have little to no social housing at all.

But nobody really desires to pay for adequate social housing so I doubt there will ever be a time when there is an adequate amount.

When I lived in Vancouver, I paid 450 or 500 to rent a room. But that was a few years ago. A bit shady sometimes when renting random rooms...

In Squamish the rooms seems to run 600 to 800 on average.

Not sure about out here, but rents are going up fast and availability near 0%.

Our building when we moved in had 5 empty units, not 100%.

Some BC Housing buildings in Vancouver have wait lists so long, they have completely closed the list.

Housing is becoming critical in more then one region, no longer isolated to Vancouver and Toronto.
