The flights are booked, the leaving party is this weekend, the house has been sold, the new house is ready...all systems go.
Now for the nerves - s/daughter crashed her car yesterday (thankfully she's ok but the car she was in the process of selling for Canadian spending money isn't!). Son is convinced he will never find a soccer team like he has here and Hubby has retreated into a catatonic state of quiet.
Me - I thought I would have a bit of last minute retail therapy before the movers arrive. I know we must take Marmite and Bisto ... but what else can I do to prep them for moving to the rock?
While the exchange rate isn't in our favour, the weather is and that is a first I'm sure

TG,
You'll be pleased to know the weather is good here right now, some rain but temps in the mid 20's. The George St festival is this weekend and next week of course we have Regatta day. Plus the food fishery opened yesterday.
Hope you have a good trip over. I'd ask for marmite but having recently visited UK we are very well stocked on Marmite and Branston Pickle. We'll have to meet up for a drink when you get here.
EDIT: Where are you moving to?
ATB,
AX

We have taken a 6 month lease in the top part of Cowan Heights just off Canada Drive and behind the school, I am pretty sure we will end up buying around there. And I am hoping what we have "lost" on the exchange rate we may make up in the local market - I am sure prices are looking lower than this time last year?

It's a shame we are missing the Regatta, I have a friend rowing this year and another friend is playing at the George St Festival..oh well, next year for sure. I read that you passed through and guessed you may have stocked up but if you think of anything pressing before next Wednesday feel free to ask as we decided to ship the lot in the end. Something about 20 years worth of tools that couldn't be replaced was the deciding factor in that one ???

Thanks. If I have any flash of inspiration in the next day or so I'll let you know. I'm not sure that prices have softened signficantly here other than on the >$500k places but then I'm not really keeping that close an eye on the market. I have no sympathies with respect to exchange rates as circumstances forced me to move money over at far less than it is now.

Now if the sun can keep shining - we are still waiting for Noah!

I suppose it is all play money really. We ceratinly won't be in King William Estates but will be quite happy to get what we can get; we were late on the property market here so won't be doing as well as some but then again, that isn't why we are moving.

I'm sure you'll find a great property. There's certainly a world of choice out there!

Sorry, re-reading my comment it came across a little more negative than I had intended. We did well out of the property bump on moving over and have a much nicer house than we had in UK. The drop in exchange rate essentially means that we weren't able to buy the 'toys' that one craves such as ATV's, Skidoo's etc. In the grand scheme of things however we are very grateful for what we have.

I think he is watching the rates as a distraction technique ... his real worry is not understanding a word that is being spoken for the next ten years hahahahahaha
Oh - as long as our new place has a proper front porch with closet, a proper laundry room and a deck then we are well pleased. Our 3 bed terrace here is sooooo small - lovely but smallllllll.
