No it isn't. Icelandair is a scheduled carrier and doesn't use 747s. Air Atlanta Icelandic is a cargo and wet-lease outfit. It does have 747s.

Ponder this.

"Flights from the UK to Canada are to be operated for Canada Extra from June 2011. Flights will operate from Glasgow & Gatwick to Calgary, Toronto and Vancouver and will be flown by Boeing 747-300 aircraft."

That's from Wikipedia. Canada Extra, as we know, was stillborn.

The new outfit will start flights from Gatwick to Toronto and Vancouver in July 2011, using 747-300s from Air Atlanta Icelandic.

Slight coincidence there.

I was wrong about seat pitch in an earlier post but 31" still isn't great.

hmm - but when you google the flight numbers they present when you use the site - they are Icelandic Air flights! strange

long and short is sounds good, but could be suspect, again just like Zoom, were good while they lasted but this Alberta HQ thing could be a problem. Hope not prices are great....

I flew to Calgary Tuesday and after a 6 hour wait in London they flew us to Toronto where we then sat on the tarmac for an hour as the washroom at the front of the plane wouldn't work . I wouldn't mind but they are all compulsive liars. Should have stuck with Westjet !

I wouldn't go that far but I think it's fair to say that the staff are very governmental, they have the level of commitment and enthusiasm one finds among employees of the Liquor Control Board of Ontario and prison warders. I had a phase of flying AC from west coast locations, LA, San Franciso, and so on, very often the plane wouldn't go on the right day because the staff were too late for the plane to make the curfew in Toronto. This would be due to "traffic", "weather" or some other factor that plainly didn't affect the passengers. My return trip last week was almost on time, which would have disappointed me after all these years of **** ups, but the pilot missed the gate and had to go around the whole taxiway again adding half an hour to the gate-to-gate time.

Incidentally, I was amused to see that the Toronto airport now has lots of signs announcing that it's the world's most improved airport. Still shit, of course, but now with efficiency and hospitality approaching that of the Buffalo Greyhound bus station.

It has improved with the advent of free wifi, which works rather better here in the Maple Leaf lounge than downstairs with the proles. That enables me to BE whilst I wait for my delayed flight to New Orleans. On Air Canada of course.

EDITTED to add: Just realised that I am sitting in a real Maple Leaf Lounge, posting on a virtual Maple Leaf Lounge. How very web 2.0 of me.

I thought it worked fine at the gate so, yes, it's an improvement. I don't go in AC lounges anymore because I find them inhospitable, I think it's more friendly outside with the illiterate concession stand operators and bullying security guards.

It's my first time in a Maple Lead lounge and it certainly lacks something compared to the vague memories I have of BA Club lounges in the mid 90's. Having got up at 3:00am Nfld time, I will shortly be leaving the rarified atmosphere in search of something more sustaining that toast and yogurt.
