someone allegedly fired for posting shit about Amanda Todd

I have concerns about scouring social media sites for comments people don't agree with and then outing them to their family and employers.

I am not commenting upon the Amanda Todd issue, but who made this women arbiter of what is correct and what isn't?

imo, if you're going to post something on the internet, that's the risk you take.

outed for allegedly, taking photos of women without their permission. There's a Calgarian in there...so much for "Better Life for the Kiiiiids"

I agree on this - a lad has been arrested and charged in the uk (am not sure what with!) fit posting "unacceptable" comments regarding the little Welsh girl that is still missing and Madeleine Mcaan.

Some one posted a photo of a girl hanging with the phrase "todding" underneath.

Yes some people may find such macabre"jokes" funny, BUT surely common sense and deceny would prevent most normal people from posting it directly onto the RiP memorial page?

yeah. I don't think it should be illegal (free speech etc) but if you're going to post it, you better be ready for the possible consequences. I don't have a lot of sympathy for you- general you - if you get backlash for posting horrible things. Free speech cuts both ways.

Interesting developments.

I thought that website hosts were responsible for things posted on them, not the individual posters? Isn't that why sites started becoming moderated, to avoid lawsuits for libel?

i'm not sure about hte law around this.

Allegedly with the creepshots/jail bait subforums, they got around it by taking photos of women in public places. The forums were on Reddit which is very free-speech.

I don't really know how you can enforce the laws. Which jurisdiction's law do you follow? Where the server is kept? The database? What if it's a database that's across more than one jurisdiction?

I would argue that the only way to keep bad behaviour down on the 'net is to shine a nice, strong, harsh light on the perpetrators so we know who they are.

There is now rumour swirling that the "outed" stalker actually worked for Facebook.
