Each syllabus has a recommended text list. Generally, it takes a book from Irwin Law and a book from Carswell and a few others.
I don't know what Province you are in or where you wish to practise but, insofar as applying for Articles goes, you will need to contact the appropriate Law Society who will let you know what the procedure for applying for Articles is. Some of them have very strict requirements as to when offers can be made and accepted

Any idea how to get a NCA exam book list so I can get started?

I don't know how up to date or accurate those will be.
Those syllabi are far superior to the one they issued when I went through it. From memory, the Administrative syllabus was the contents page of the recommended text; all 1800 pages of it!
Best of luck

You will need to obtain the syllabus for each exam. They will set out the recommended texts. Here is a link to the relevant page of the NCA's website: http://www.flsc.ca/en/nca/nca-resources/syllabi/

When did you go through your NCA exams? Did you do them by yourself or did you enlist in one of the courses that prepare you?

The exams are not worth losing sleep over. They are open book and I had time to read an entire chapter of a subject I didn't think would come up when it did.

From: UK to Canada

Hi all,
I have just received my NCA assessment and I have to complete a total of 11 exams; the majority due to the fact that I just have an LLB degree and not much other experience and a few due to poor marks in certain subjects.
I am looking to sit some of these in the UK as I don't intend on residing in Canada until early 2014 so if anyone has any information on this it would be much appreciated.
Also if anyone has any notes on the 4 mandatory subjects as well as contracts, property, civil procedure, commercial law and family law, I would be thankful for the help.
I have read through the previous posts and the general consensus seems to be that the exams are relatively straightforward, but never the less I would appreciate any tips on preparation practices for the exams.
Thanks.

I received this from NCA last week about them changes to their exams and thought it might be useful for some people on here:

The lady said that NCA targeted to mail out the result by early next week.
Still need to wait.

Thanks for the update; experience has taught me not to expect the results until the full 12 weeks are up from the end of the session (which would be Aug 2) so that ties in with what they told you.
And don't be surprised if the letter is dated a week before the postmark either...
And then there's still a week until registration for October closes.
Hope I won't be needing that.
