The Music/Gigs Thread
Do you sometimes think you could've spent your iTunes gift voucher even more wisely on the essential tunes that you don't have in your collection, or would you like to have some advance knowledge of gigs coming to Toronto/Vancouver/Moncton so that you can be first in the queue for tickets? Well, okay there are internet sites for this but still...
Probably not, and perhaps this thread won't last, but I may be able to tempt a couple of people in >>>> I have one spare ticket for the Rogers Waters "The Wall" gig at Rogers Centre (how apt ...) on June 23th if anyone wants it. It's in the 500 section and I'll flog it for $45.00 which is less than I paid for it ... if anyone's interested. Not sitting by me - you may be pleased to know :) - but not a million miles away. First come, first serve... Now then, what other gigs are coming up? Who you seeing and where ...? Also, what are people buying on iTunes / mostly listening to on Spotify this week? I just bought lots of 70s tracks because I was bit light there - in case anyone wants some tips. :D |

Re: The Music/Gigs Thread
If you live in Vancouver this is a good resource to find out what's coming and when and how tickets are sold.

500's aren't bad for that type of concert. main reason being that all the visuals are actually better seen from further back. |

Also going to see the Warchild gig with Dry the River, The dudes from Blur and ed sheeran (really NOT into) I'm also going to see St Vincent, Veronica Falls, and Fanfarlo. In the last few weeks I have seen: The Maccabees Dry the River (Q Sessions) Yuck If you are really interested in music properly, check band websites, venue websites, music review websites and plain music websites such as pitchfork, the quietus, etc...songkick which gives basically every listing of bands playing in venues everywhere so long as you have them added to your directory for a search etc. Also, and this is just my own opinion, if you have spotify or sqeezebox ect, i would invest in a good pair of headphones like the hd800s and a proper dac, also FLAC format. That will allow you to listen to the music the way it was meant to be heard. Just a suggestion, obviously. |

It's such a shame that Radiohead are playing Downsview Park, if they were playing anywhere else then I would probably have come home to see it. Ohwell, I've got tickets to see them in Nimes this July and tickets to see them both nights at the O2! (thanks waste)...

Re: The Music/Gigs Thread
Saw Radiohead some years back when they toured UK with a Marquis tent.
Of all the great albums they had, this tour was for a crappy experimental music album they had just released. They only played music off that album and other crap that must have missed the cut of that album. They refused to play anything the people there knew and wanted to hear. Haven't bought anything of theirs since. On another note, one of my work colleges just saw Hugh Cornwell and Glen Matlock at a small venue here, apparently they are touring as a threesome (drummer included) and play a Stranglers and a Sex Pistols set. |

Also, the entire point of music is that it's art, and I actually respect the fact (although sometimes I agree, it can be dissapointing) that they play different stuff all the time, and not fan favorite singalong songs. Some of the best musicians are the ones that are forever reinventing themselves and refuse to be put into a specific category by their "fans"... People like Bob Dylan, Talking Heads, The Smiths, Radiohead, Neil Young etc. |

People like Bob Dylan, Talking Heads, The Smiths, Radiohead, Neil Young etc. But the bands should recognize that the fans pay their money to buy their albums and should acknowledge that the fans were brought in by their music as a whole. For quite a few any concert maybe their only chance to see their hero's sing live. So while I would have no problem with Radiohead playing the whole album, you'd expect them to play some things that the fans had lived with for years, to allow them to hear at least some of the songs that they know so well. For example I saw Pink Floyd during their A Momentary lapse of reason tour, they played the album in its entirety sync'd with film, once they completed that they played a best of, it was great!! Led Zeppelin played a mixture of old and new on their last tour. Most bands will play the 'new' album to promote and push the music but they also play some of the music that the fans have bought into. |

Nothing against re-inventing (you missed the biggest style changer David Bowie there), and no-one expects the concert to be a big sing-a-long.

Whilst I agree that it is frustrating and dissapointing, I still disagree that bands should bow to every demand made by their fans. If bands recycled all their "hit songs" over and over again on each tour, it would get pretty boring for all that attend after a while. Well at least, to me. The entire point of seeing a band live, is to enjoy the art which is the music they make. I'd also be curious to know which uk show you went to exactly? As they tend to play 24/5 songs, they must have played other songs from their back catalogue which fans would know as Kid A only has 11 songs on it. I've seen Radiohead numerous times in Canada and in the UK and can say that they do tend to switch it up a lot. They have a massive back catelogue and so, they do tend to play a bit of everything. This time around it will be new songs/tkol/inrainbows with the odd song from the other albums/bsides. (like for example, the other night they played "the amazing sounds of orgy" which is a bside from like the amnesiac sessions I believe. |

Radiohead Warrington 2000 (bootleg live recording) The playlist don't look too bad but I can remember long parts being totally bored and my wife (who was the Radiohead fan) being disappointed at the end plus the grumblings in general of the exiting crowd. |

Kid-A sounds like an album that you have to 'get into', I never have listened to it.
I'm playing that gig now maybe after a few goes I may change my mind, but at the time I didn't feel it was great. |

I saw Thom Yorke at Cambridge in 2010 Feb...and he played some really obscure ones then, so I guess it worked out for me in the end. I got to hear like "I froze up" which had only ever been played during a webcast they did and like "true love waits" which is a great track that rarely gets played. So, I feel lucky about that. |
Re: The Music/Gigs Thread
well, I just don't know who to pick - in the next couple months here in Newfoundland we have Bryan Adams, Chris de Burgh and Johnny Reid. a girl just doesn't know what to do!

I missed the kid a tour that came around in Canada because it sold out instantly. I regret that so much, I've never heard In Limbo live and would LOVE to. I'm seeing them 4 times this year, twice in Nimes, and Both nights at the 02, and hope to god they play a few from Kid A...Although to be honest, either way I'm sure it will be good.

The drugs and alcohol helped with that too though.
I'm seeing Radiohead 4 times so far this tour...So, i reckon I should get to hear a good mix of their songs. When I saw Thom Yorke in Cambridge in Feb and he played True Love Waits, it was one of those moments for me...but I wasn't sad, I was just like, I wish I could hold onto this moment for a little while longer. My husband and I are pretty big fans, he has seen them something like 16 or 17 times. I've only seen them so far 5 times so yeah. (although, I missed them in their prime, which I'll always regret) |
