It uses a lot of resources that it doesnt need to, so its seems slow and cumbersome in comparison, plus the fact that its the default choice means that miscreants will tend to focus on finding its security loopholes in preference to other, lower volume browsers.

I rather like google chrome myself.

As for Anti virus. I use AVG, it seems very good to me, and outperforms many of the AV programs that people pay for in independent testing:thumbup: I see no need to trade over to the MS one, which will no doubt become a magnet for people seeking to exploit any weaknesses it may have.

You still have to have a firewall and virus checker. The internet runs slightly slow on Mac too. But you never really notice. Nether are better or worst. It just matter of what you get used to plus on Mac you can run XP or Vista if you like.

till it breaks :p

Avast is great for AV, Comodo for firewall is bothered by having one, Zonealarm is a resource sink.

Browser, whatever you want to use, but IE is a bit rubbish. I use FF though I'd also recommend Opera.

Yup! We have 4 laptops in our household (1 Dell, 2 Acers and a Macbook), a Dell Dimension desktop PC and a Dell Power Edge server. The only one of those that's failed us so far (and they're all about the same age - all purchased since we moved here) is the Macbook, with overheating issues and a hard drive failure
