Well that description applies to a $30 million home not a mere $10 million place to rest your head. I find it quite odd that they quote the monthly mortgage payments for the $30 million home which would scare most people off.
My wife went to San Diego years ago and raved about how beautiful La Jolla was. |

If I had 10 million, I would not be buying a house in Alberta when you can gave ocean front house.

What price beachfront properties as sea level rises? Q. Who will build the wall that Mare Largo will need to keep the sea out? The cubans? |

Re: McMansion
I think Jsmth has the right idea... if you've got tens of millions to drop on a property, a fancy designer concrete & glass box by the sea is a way better option than a Holiday Inn-style mansion made of 2"x4" in the middle of the steppes.
Although I'd far rather it was on the Mediterranean rather than the US coast. :) |

Our ground floor bathroom has a glass block window (which actually affords relatively little privacy if you stand outside and peer through it), the upstairs bathroom has no window, but the downstairs "half bath" (toilet) has a plane glass window that looks out to the wooded bank opposite 15m-40m away. There is a venetian blind over the window, but I like the view. :) The perceived lack of privacy used to freak out my mother when she visited even though (i) the window is above head height on the outside, (ii) the light, shade, and/or angle of the sun makes it difficult to make out anything inside looking from outside, except at night if you turn the light on, and (iii) we own all the property outside the window, including the wooded bank and beyond, and there isn't anyone out there trying to look in! |

Re: McMansion
I like those ocean homes with all the glass for the natural light they get, nothing better then a house with lots of natural lighting. The views are nice too. And being right on the ocean, you have a natural method of keeping cool most of the summer, only during Santa Ana's does the coast really warm up.
