I would love to move to the Maritimes but could not handle the weather. B.C. is a better option.

Another unsustainable business built around cheap labor, if a company has to have cheap labor to survive, their product or business plan is flawed.

A peninsula (Latin: paeninsula from paene "almost" and insula "island") is a piece of land that is bordered by water on three sides but connected to mainland. The surrounding water is usually understood to belong to a single contiguous body, but is not always explicitly defined as such.
I would say that NS is a peninsula... There is only one way in and out of NS which is a narrow stretch of land...surely that makes it a peninsula

Would combing the maritime provinces into one province with 1 government help?
Seems those provinces need to become business friendly and maybe adjust their taxes and provide tax breaks to get companies to move there, but then they are so far away from the bulk of the country that moving there probably doesn't make a ton of sense for most companies.

I never mentioned BC, and being on either extreme coast isn't ideal, but at least with BC you have a larger population within the province itself. Bulk may have been a poor choice of wording it however.
Anyhow it's pretty clear people and companies for whatever reason don't want to be in the maritime's.

There will always be people there, but doesn't appear based on the article people are wanting to move there, seems more are interested in leaving.

Fredericton calls itself "the start up capital of the Atlantic Provinces" and whether it is or not, I really don't know. I do know that it's trying hard to achieve sustainable growth and encourage people to stay.
There is in some quarters a strong resistance to change, and I don't think I'd like to emigrate here if I were from a minority...I know that some say that moving to Canada is in someways like stepping back to a Britain of 30 years ago, well I think that Atlantic Canada is like a Canada of 30 years ago....and a portion of the populace like it just fine like that, but it's going to hamper forward progression.
There are many positives about the Atlantic Provinces...(non of them weather related
) I so hope that a spirit of endeavor will help to change the economic gloom long term, and let these areas start to grow again.Thank you so much for posting the article ExKiwiLass.

It's too bad that many seem so conservative but I empathize with their fear. Oh well, the world changes, everyone has to wake up to that fact.

Yes, and many of the poor souls are too poor to retire and are propping up younger members of their family with their income already.
