London shooting

Re: London shooting
UK Police was formed on the principle of "policing by consent" rather than by force.
When I occasionally catch a glimpse of a UK cop show, I am still amazed that this principle still exists today. No guns, people placed under arrest without handcuffs and shoved into the back of a Police car with no prisoner partition.

This sort of thing does not help the Muslim cause?? A question I ask is this Iman preached anti Jewish hate speak on Dec 23 last year, so why didn't anyone who was at the speech, in the mosque speak out about this when it actually happened ?

This has been my point for a long time! if i were a devout muslim...i would be utterly appalled that my religion was being tarnished in this way.

Actually using a motorized vehicle is the perfect "weapon" to carry out such attacks. No need to buy and secrete guns, explosives, knives, chemicals and as exhibited by the Berlin Christmas attack. Many people can be killed and/or injured at one time, with a reasonable chance the culprit could get away.

Re: London shooting
Was the early 70's when I became a copper in Scotland. We all reckoned then that we would be armed within the following ten years or so. I retired early 2000's. More officers are armed now however, still not in general terms. I suppose it becomes more likely as time goes on, but still a ways away yet. Without considering any other factors, cost of doing so would be staggering! It's just a pity that the unfortunate officer murdered yesterday had not been armed as it's probable the outcome would have been different. Just an opinion. It certainly surprised me, given his duties, that he was not.

It appears that the it was the bodyguard of a minister that in fact shot the attacker.

There's a report in the guardian today about a photo
Photo of woman in hijab passing attack victim on bridge 'misappropriated'
Anti-Islam blogs claim that photograph taken in Westminster is evidence for Muslims’ indifference to suffering
The photographer who took the pics said “The people who took on that picture are being rather selective,” he said. “In the other picture in the sequence she looks truly distraught ... personally I think she looks distressed in both pictures. “It’s wrong it’s been misappropriated in that way.”
Using the image, I googled for where it had been used and came across an example of what the article was getting at.
It's a real eye-opener to see the stuff posted there, not just about this event but other stuff too.
It really makes you question just how much freedom of speech is good when you see so much prejudice and hateful stuff, especially when so much of it is demonstrably untrue.

Haven't seen that site, but in principle, freedom of speech is always the best policy. Without it, there isn't freedom of thought. The Americans have got this one right.
