Even for much bigger Moncton it's quite noticeable reading the local paper, how often the same three names for prosecution, defence and judge feature in 2 or 3 reports from the same day with the same sort of crime.

DTES is getting worse. We are about a 5 minute drive from the DTES but its overflowing to this area, not a night goes past without issues outside, during the day you can see people passed out in the alley, used needles, theft is rampant as is vandalism.

Looks like the gondola in Squamish will be closed until early spring 2020.

Hopefully they told police why they did what they did in the video so the victims family can have some closure and not have to spend their lives wondering why.

The article I read said RCMP would release more information in a few weeks.

People making racist comments never appear to think they are racist.

"Carla Waldman told CBC News today that she doesn't care what people are calling her and insisted that she's not a racist person."

The DTES is getting worse and worse with violent crime increasing. I often now go out of my way on transit to get downtown so I can avoid having to ride transit through the DTES, requires an extra connection and time, but the buses are sketchy these days through the DTES.

The increase in gun crime and gun seizures in the DTES sort of echoes the trend in most cities, but it's probably easier to get one in Van than other places because the gangs are so well established. That means taking a gun off the street won't have as much effect because it's easily replaced. There were always some robbers with guns but if the winos and junkies in the DTES are going to pack guns now, it's only a matter of time until there's a shootout down there. I found it interesting that Steve Addison is still in the area; he was one of the officers in the original The Beat series.
If it's getting hairy on the bus going through there maybe they'll start putting transit cops on the bus like they do on the skytrain.

The last place that needs access to guns is the DTES, I imagine a good amount of the crime is related to drugs and obtaining drugs and thefts and such to get the funds to buy said drugs.

A ride on the #16, #14, #20, or 95 SFU buses is well interesting on a good day, and a little scary on a bad day, my wife refuses to take these buses downtown alone, she has been harassed too many times and isn't comfortable riding the bus downtown through the DTES.
