woo.
If you think the beavers are big wait 'til you see size of the mosquito's.

They had this one stuffed, mounted and used as a weather vane.

That's fantastic
I like it that much, I may use it for my computer background in work.

See, when people come on whingeing and moaning about their new home...."It's too cold. I'm paid in dollars not solid gold. What holidays? I have to get a visa?!"....I am going to post pictures of dairy products in bags & massive creatures. If that can't bring a smile to your face, I don't know what will.

Well that's just taking the piss now. And quite frightening.
I'm off to bed to dwell upon what I have learnt today.

The pace of life is slower here..also i find that a lot of canadians are thick as s***! or lack common sense..but a friendly welcoming bunch all the same
Tv is rubbish..i dont like that they show the same programme on 4 or 5 different channels at the same time..especailly sport...i still cant find a shop like tescos...or cash points situated in a mall,,they dont chip and pin on credit cards but do on debit cards...women are just as useless on the roads as in the uk but drive bigger cars..there are fast food joints and drugstores every 10yards but no decent indian/chinese takeways..all prices are shown before tax..so always make sure you got more money than you think you need.
thing is i knew this before i emigrated permanently having been out before but you are never fully prepared for the culture shock.
Move to Toronto, great for your Indian and Chinese and real great people, not thick at all.

I'm sure these 'Canadians' just love you as you tell them that they are as thick as 'S*it'. Ever watched Vicky Pollard, or the antics of the WAGS and Rooney clan....not too much cerebral going on there.

TV being crap. The same holds true in the UK as there are lots of inane fabricated reality and celebrity shows on there. If you want sport, for a little bit of money you can watch sport from around the world and a lot of it has a minority interest here (rugby, footie, cricket).

I gather you aren't married or involved with a female based on your comments on their driving ability.

I hope your comments were tongue in cheek.
im very much married with three young children..im very successful in my career as is my wife. i secured my own immigration off my own back..got to canada and have secured a more senior role than i had in the uk within 3 weeks of landing.

one good thing that hasnt taken hold as much in canada is political correctness so i can say what i like about who i like or about anything i like..i think it is called having an opinion.

anyway i was not harping on bout minor things i was stating these are things i only find different than the uk..and they are superficial things that is the whole point!

but i stand by my opinion that a lot of people in the uk are more switched on..than those in Canada. and there is nothin wrong with the fact that i take an interest in my appearence the clothes i wear..ive had plenty of female compliments simply because of the way i dress and look.

I say what i think simple..and you know what alot of the people here find it quirky and maybe that has helped me who knows?

A wise Australian woman who was working in the UK once said "same shit different country". I would agree. Some things bug you the same amount, others more but at the end of the day it's a 'swings and roundabouts' scenrio. The grass isn't greener - it's different grass but it's still grass. I think it has to be what you make it. I've been here 4 and a half years and at times have been close to going home. If it were feasible I'd spend half my time here and half in the UK but it isn't so I chose here. Here I can be more me than I would be in the UK - no expectations, no pre-conceived ideas but none of the old familiar "feels like an old sock" comfort. I still like the idea of the space/land/house I can own here versus what I can get back in the UK and that is another reason I stay.

Keep on with the big mouthing. You'll be in for a big hairy career-f**king comeuppance one day. You just haven't figured Canada out.....yet.

But of course, being so successful and career savvy, why would you need anyones advice ? You seem to have it all dialed in.

Hi, we moved here in the beginning of November last year, we all absolutely love it here and, after a bit of a shakey start, are starting to settle now. My OH has a job he enjoys without the stress aspect of the UK. My 2 girls are well settled in school and enjoying the laid back way of life. I have finally got myself a job doing something i enjoy, and we are due to take poss of our new home next week. All in all life is good once you realise that stress is not an every day factor here and things take time to deal with.

Are we living the dream? I wouldn't say that, if we were i would be Kylie Minogue and living in a huge house on Miami Beach, but to be living in this lovely country with fab people, and to have the oppertunities that we wouldn't have been able to have in the UK makes it all worth while.

I would say, try it out for at least a year, it's not everybody's cup of tea, but you will never know if you don't try.

My very best wishes to you and i hope it all works out for you, no matter what you decide.

Lorraine

LIFE IS FOR LIVING! DO IT! Even if moving to Canada doesn't work out for people at least they can say they had the experience. I came here on my own with 2 dogs in tow. I've had my highs and lows and it is hard as a single person even when you've made friends because I don't feel comfortable throwing my woes at someone else but I get by. Even when I was thinking about going home I wouldn't have swapped the time I've spent here for anything.

Don't you think it rather unlikely that someone in Canada would be jealous of someone who is planning to go to Edmonton?

You just got here! Think you have a lot to learn about Canada and Canadians. Seems like you might be in for a few surprises on the way.
