Well, myself, Nanny Pat (MIL) and Lozza headed out to Pincher Creek Hutterite colony this afternoon, sadly Minihaha couldn't make it, the influence she has on me it's probably just as well, but anyway, we were there to have a tour of the colony and get a better understanding of what they are all about. If you aren't sure who I mean, this link my help

It's a very liberal colony out there, nowhere near as conservative as most, and it was really enjoyable and very educational to walk with a lovely lady by the the name of Rosa around their homes, farm, school and church.
These guys live a communal way of life, it's all about family. They all seem very chilled out and have a strong sense of belonging and value, as they all pull their weight from an early age and play a defined role in their community.
We really enjoyed our visit (although the less agricultural of the group found the hanging on of chickens, and hung up sides of beef a little
) and felt that it was a real eye opener, to see this colony for who they are and not just the stigma that is attached to them.
I would strongly suggest giving the colony a call if you live in the area and wanted to know more, from the horses mouth. Rosa made us feel really welcome. Overall I left feeling that us lot could maybe learn a thing or two from their way of life, it was really quite humbling and very refreshing to see people who really only care about each other, and not much else.

Are there any Luddite communities in the area? I'm interested in meeting them - thx.

The majority are very nice, apart from one guy who runs one of the Colonies near here - he frankly is an arse.
Now I am fully aware that women in Hutterite Colonies are just slightly above chickens in importance and that guys rule basically. And so be it - thats the way you choose.
However said chap comes into the bank today and scans the staff and promtly states "I can't believe that theres all women in this bank" to which one of the girls laughed it off and said well we can look after him just as well and how could she help.
To which he turned to me and said "I don't care its not very good, women can't run a bank"
To which I replied "I have to say I find your comment quite offensive" (had I not been at work I probably would have said "well suck it up soldier or go somewhere else").
I mean yes everyones entitled to their own oinion and lifestyle, but you can't deal with a bank and then complain that theres not a testicle in sight can you
One of the other girls then intervened and more or less frog marched him away from my office as I think she could see I was turning quite angry and purple.
