Having had the benefit of meeting several of the ladies who post on here I can happily say the sight of them in their undies would bring more than a smile to my Face

But then again that is somewhat tempered by the vanity of posting to an audience on here as if what you have to say isn't any less meaningless than than posts saying such and such a person is dead. In reality, there is no meaning on BE - it's ALL pointless noise that does little more than pass some time. And therefore, as far as I'm concerned, people can post whatever threads they like; they will soon fall off the main page if they aren't interesting enough - or they will linger around annoying people. Either is fine with me.

I was going to let this one go, BUT I'm bored :p

1) I do not (and did not) sneer at people who are interested in celebrities. I asked if it is really necessary to 'foist' your interest in (and the health reports of) your fave celebs on a board that is (ostensibly) to do with emigrating to (and living in) the country of Canada. I was aware PS was dead last night, it was repeated in the Calgary Herald this morning, It continually appears on numerous websites. I dont need to see\hear it on BE as well.

2) Not all threads (in fact less than 50% (a lot less probably)) that start on BE are, as you put it, pointless noise when they are concieved. It takes the likes of those posters who regularly have more than 5 posts a day (you, I and CO included) to 'royally screw up' a thread before it reaches such lofty heights.

3) I'm sure that some posters (MikeUK, Edo and a couple of others) really do think that their posts have some intellectual capacity but the majority of us are aware that in the main over 3/4 of what we post is of limited (if any) interest to anyone outside of our own immediate Fan club.
Lets face it you score points of me, I score points off EssexMan, Flogger scores points off el richo and so it goes on.
As someone said would we have the balls to talk to each other this way face to face? I'd like to say yes (and indeed I often do talk to people in real life the way I talk to people on here) but common decency (and an 'english' upbringing) suggests that until I have known you quite a while I would be inclined to remain somewhat civil and bite my tongue.

I have some sympathy with Alan's point... BE can be informative, entertaining, a kind of false comfort when one is temporarily lonely or bored... but it's hardly an intellectual feast (not that I'd have the wherewithal to contribute to one of those).

And Butch - I know you do meet quite a few people from this site and I trust in real life you are more civil, because at times on here you can be quite offensive. BTW, I hope you have forgiven me for a) refusing to meet you for coffee and b) for withdrawing from the BE'ers on FB. Sometimes it makes life simpler to keep some acquaintances just virtual!

Back on thread, I don't particularly care if people want to share in TML views that aren't on the topic of all things Canadian. None of us is being forced to read any thread we don't fancy; it's a pic n' mix innit?

To answer your points.

1) - Nobody forces you to click on the link. And isn't that what the maple leaf is for; off topic chat for people that hang around in the Canadian sub-forum.
2) - Debatable - for me this is entertainment only (even this thread). I'm not here to help my fellow man or add to some collective insight.
3) - Agreed. But given your post count and length of time here, pretty much everyone knows your virtual persona quite well. You are going to get a lot more stick for that reason alone (you don't need me to point this out to you though, as I'm sure you know it already).

I'll add that the post wasn't solely aimed at you; though it was mainly as your motivation for starting this thread came across as nasty and vindictive. I have no problem with nasty and vindictive myself - I just thought it would be amusing to write a sneering nihilistic rant in reply.

3) I dont believe I was defending (or even really refering to) peoples feelings about my online persona. And to be honest I cgaff how the majority of people do react to me.

Only I know the motivation for having started this thread. The way people percieve my motivation says as much about them as it does it about me. If they see as it as nasty and vindictive that isnt my problem, if they see it as sarcastic again that isnt my problem, if they see it as pointing out that we can all take the published death of someone and post in an internet forum (ie people its already in the public realm) then they may just have hit the nail on the head.

I find that hard to credit. If you really cgaff you wouldn't be so quick to defend posts such as this.

I agree with you on the premise of this thread, btw, but you must have been able to see that the way you chose to highlight it would be seen as combative. Not sure I'd go so far as "offensive" though.

exactly, otherwise the forum dies (Meaning if nobody reacted to anything we'd simply have a forum full of one post threads)

It wasn't actually a criticism as I'm not that much of a hypocrite.

And for the record I've never found anything posted by you (or anyone else for that matter) offensive.

Colorectal related perhaps?
