Um... but nobody (outside their immediate circle of family and friends) knows them or cares. CO had met Patrick Swayze ffs... for a fleeting moment, she WAS baby! You two old codgers are just incorrigible. Any excuse for a new thread, eh?

OK,

I personally do\did not know PS, MJ, KF or many other (supposed) celebs, I could not give a flying fork that they are dead, with the exception of one film and a few 'decent' recordings in his early career neither of the first two were of any interest alive and are of even less interest dead. I mourn the passing of Jill Dando, Carole Barnes and others NOT because of their celeb status but because I knew them in more than passing.

I've met many "famous" people through work, so that's in passing, plus a few in private. I feel no great compulsion to start a fatuous thread everytime one of them pops their clogs. If I do mourn for someone then I certainly won't be posting and sharing my grief on here.

So karma to you Butch for this thread.

We can all sneer at people who are interested in celebrities as if we think we are better people for not having such vacuous pursuits. But then again that is somewhat tempered by the vanity of posting to an audience on here as if what you have to say isn't any less meaningless than than posts saying such and such a person is dead. In reality, there is no meaning on BE - it's ALL pointless noise that does little more than pass some time. And therefore, as far as I'm concerned, people can post whatever threads they like; they will soon fall off the main page if they aren't interesting enough - or they will linger around annoying people. Either is fine with me.

Well Hurrah indeed for The Annoying Troll.

Whether it's the usually drivellous posters suddenly pretending to be all deep and meaningful and mortally offended by such trite, or whether it's the resident pseuds who think they're oh-so-lofty by feigning ignorance of popular culchur... it's absolutely puke-making to read.

Now what if (Saint) Eddie Izzard had had a heart attack and died on his jog?!

Well I was sorry to see Patrick Swayze go. Dirty Dancing was a signature film for both my children and my, recently departed, partner. I now know what happens when you put Baby in a corner.

Like Alan said this is all entertainment. I just imagine anyone that annoys me on here, sitting in their undies and string vest, typing away under the single light of a swaying, naked, bulb.

Not the ladies of course!:D
