Anyone here been called up and served?
I am curious as one can be called any time and as far as I know it is hard to say no
Then some might relish the prospect?
Who knows?

I've done it twice in Ontario. Both times I had to go to Brampton Courthouse up on Hwy 10. The first time I was picked for a jury and the trial last two and a half weeks. The second time they sent me home every day at lunchtime. The defense objected on the three occasions that I was pooled. It's a pain but necessary and yes, it's very difficult to get out of your duty if you're called.

My friend was called up in the summer, for a weeks service. She's a PR and has only lived here permanently for just over a year. She said it was fascinating and nerve wracking.

I know of several people at work that have managed to get deferments due to really sucky timing ( exams etc)

but they pull the lists from voter lists
and this document refers to "Canadian citizens"

having said that I can't find specifically where it says you must be one
confused

$20 to $40 a day, rising to $40/$80 from the 10th day.
Generous if you're not working.
Does attending but not needed count for $20?

you have a choice .. see link
you can decide if you wish your name to be provided to elections canada
if you say yes, then guess what? there is no magic, i think this where your name would surface as a potential juror

You must be a Canadian citizen to serve on a Canadian jury, section 3 of the Jury Act in Alberta is the relevant statute: http://www.qp.alberta.ca/documents/Acts/J03.pdf
The video also says this: http://www.albertacourts.ab.ca/Court...9/Default.aspx
